Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

Thanks! To anyone downloading CrunchBang should always check the MD5 hashes. Always. Especially from an unofficial source. Not to say someone hash intentionally modified the file but you can never guarantee the integrity of the server.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

The only problem with the torrents is that my ISP is incredibly crappy, and I end up being a leech. So the direct downloads are more useful.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

machinebacon, thanks very much!

I normally have no problem with torrents, but for some reason I couldn't get a download started with the posted torrent file (using deluge). Anyway, I now have the waldorf amd64 .iso.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

I'd love to mirror a direct download, but 1. my ISP hates me enough already and 2. I don't have a reliable shared hosting account at the moment. I'll be able to seed the torrent via my home seedbox for a while, though.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

Direct ISO downloads available... http://crunchbang-download.co.nr/

I'm testing server load capacity and thought, hmmm....it's the least I can do to show my appreciation. CrunchBang is the damn best Linux distro I've found after trying out quite a few others...to say the very least. Thank you, Philip.

We'll rock it 'til server crashes.... big_smile

PS. If I can get a few donations, I'll buy a proper url redirect..."http://crunchbang-download.us" or something similar.

I still have 1.5TB of transfer left on my Linode so if you get too much traffic maybe I can develop a simple weighted round robin solution to distribute the load.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

I am looking for a direct download link as I have a network restriction and can't get a torrent.

It looks like a lot of people had success with the download from machinebacon, but that page is now going to just a blank page.

If anyone has another place or suggestion, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Did you try the link rickmetta posted? http://crunchbang-download.co.nr/

If you want a sid-based port of #! (LinuxBBQ Darkside), you can get it here:

wget -c http://linuxbbq.org/releases/Darkside/linuxbbq-darkside64.iso

The link rickmetta posted appears to be working, but I'm not sure what the MD5 for that file should be? If it is to be the one here on crunchbang then it is not matching up on my end.

I don't know either, and rickmetta has not posted since June 1. You could just try the iso and see. It will work or it won't...

Check out the BBQ -- there are many flavors; something for everyone. "Proof" (Xfce) and "Trollinger" (LXDE) are particularly tasty (IMO). LinuxBBQ forum is here.

rsync://rsync.redbsd.org/crunchbang/iso/

# HTTP
http://www.redbsd.org/mirror/crunchbang/iso/

It contains the isos, torrents and signatures.

I am working on setting up a ftp server to, I just haven't had the time to do so yet.

Why not‽ With my connection I usually have to spend a day or 2 to download a 800MB file. If I have to quit before it's finished, the solution is simple; when I'm able to connect again I do:

wget -c https://foo.bar/foobar.iso

and it'll continue where it left off. From man wget:

       -c
       --continue
Continue getting a partially-downloaded file. This is useful when you want to finish up a download started by a previous instance of Wget, or by another program. For instance:

                   wget -c ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/ls-lR.Z

If there is a file named ls-lR.Z in the current directory, Wget will assume that it is the first portion of the remote file, and will ask the server to continue the retrieval from an
offset equal to the length of the local file.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

So are there any analytics for the site that might tell you how many hits you are getting on the ISO? Does the hosting provider allow you to see the logs at all?
