Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

Jigdo, for the life of me I just couldn't understand why buntu years ago didn't use it more for managing the diffs between alpha's, betas, and RC's.  But there seemed this inertia against adding any decent working gui onto jigdo (not that I needed gui), and well bittorents worked well for me.

I have done full-upgrade occasionally with #! and almost every upgrade with  buntu years ago (except on my clunker machine following beta and RC)  was a full-upgrade.  But due to the custom scripts, #! prefers a clean install.

What might have the best bang for the buck would be to get some university CS depts. around the world to host #! as some do other LInux/unix os's.    Just my 2 cents.  peace mark

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

I have a 1GB linode that I'm not using much, with the recent network upgrades I can offer to host one or two of the ISOs (2TB outbound transfer). My linode is currently seeding all the CrunchBang and Ubuntu torrents and is coping quite well as a seedbox. Have you looked into using Linode now that they've upgraded? By the way I'm the person who tweeted you wink

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

Just some basic maths here but a $20 a month linode provides 2000GB of outbound transfer a month. Even if you had 2000 downloads a month the linode will still have extra transfer. That could be used as a seedbox and distribution server. Probably even a server for the website. The only problem I can imagine is the amount of IO you'd be causing. Even then for $80 a month you could get a 4GB linode, hold all the ISOs in RAM (avoiding hitting the disk) and serve them over 10,000 times a month. I'm not sure exactly how many downloads you get per month but that seems more than enough.  big_smile

Of course it's 4:40am here and I could be missing something big.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

Another obvious alternative would be to host the direct downloads on sourceforge.

From what I've read of Jigdo at the Debian main website, I share shancat's opinion.

I have deleted all testing isos and I'm seeding it as long it is the stable one - at the moment my ratio is: 11.8 and growing.

Re: Direct downloads disabled, again

Not to one-up you (more of a thumbs up to the massive CrunchBang community) but here are my stats:
64-bit: 55.8GB, ratio 77.368
32-bit pae: 61.5GB, ratio 81.647
32-bit non-pae: 38.8GB, ratio 51.507

Seed-time: 17 hours.

These numbers are jumping up as I type this.
