uuid confusion in grub [SOLVED]

i'm installing crunchbang on  mate's compaq laptop.

grub is failing to find the hd, and gives a uuid, that i have no idea where it got it from.

checking with blkid, in grub.cf and fstab, it's all set to the correct one.   and yet... when attempting to boot, it tells us it cant find the hd, with a uuid we cannot fathom where it's getting it from.

incredibly frustrating... maybe one of you know wtf.   any idea what's going on?

hopefully i can get this sorted tonight... still have to deal with his stupid broadcom wifi after i get this sorted.

old bug, old cd.

solution, dont use that old lpha release.
