Hi
I just went to update and dist-upgrade. I got the following upgrades, which I find confusing- it seems to want to downgrade my kernel image or something...I might be totally wrong, but I don't get these 'upgrades'.
libraptor2-0 linux-image-2.6-amd64 linux-image-amd64
linux-libc-dev
Can someone kindly explain them to me, and whether I should be upgrading/downgrading to them? If the 2.6 image is just a dummy transitional package, does that mean I would safely upgrade to the new linux-image it is trying to give me, rather than downgrading?
Thank you. Much appreciated

This package depends on the latest Linux kernel and modules for use on PCs
with AMD64 or Intel 64 processors.
.
This kernel also runs on a Xen hypervisor. It supports both privileged
(dom0) and unprivileged (domU) operation.
This is a handy package for keeping your kernel up-to-date without having
to specify the exact kernel version

Thanks a lot xaos52. You are great.
So I can just click yes, and allow them both to upgrade?
Do I actually have to remove the 2.6 transitional package? Its telling me it wants to install/upgrade it...

It's not really a downgrade. If you install new (in terms of other) kernels you will always keep the old (in terms of previous) kernel and image and header files and it will populate your GRUB menu. In this case here don't worry.

Thanks Machinebacon. You too are also a complete dude. I'm just rocking up to the bbq on another machine, and enjoying getting completely confused by tiling managers
I still don't really get why it wants to install an older kernel as a newer one though?!?! I thought 2.6 was old news?!?!

Remove the first package. It is of no use at all.
Upgrade the second. Despite its name it will install the latest kernel version,

Thank you xaos52. You help me so much, and others
I thought the second was just a meta package to upgrade the kernel to the latest, so I'm kinda getting there, with your help learning a lot.
