The only thing stopping my girlfriend installing waldorf is that 4od does not work. 4od is an online television service provided by channel 4 in the uk, but you can probably access and use it anywhere.
I just get to a constantly loading screen when trying to play and program.
I've looked elsewhere and other forums note that it could be a registration or adblock problem- but it doesn't seem to be as I've tried changing these.
I guess its a more general problem with the newest flash and linux. As far as I know 4od uses shockwave flash, and is pretty horrible. But it would be nice to get working, and is something that, though very simple and not really needed, makes linux less attractive for a lot of normal users.
Anyone else experience this, and/or have any fixes/ideas?
I have been using 4OD the past few days (Black Books FTW), and it does work under waldorf (standard falsh and iceweasel installed).
You will get long loading screens a few times, and the occasional error message, but if you keep hitting play/refreshing it will eventually start up. FWIW I have seen the same behaviour on Mint and Windows, so I think they just have issues at peak times or something.
If it is still too painful, you can always use their youtube channel. It looks to have nearly all the content, minus a few newer things.
Cheers Chris! I will hopefully have it working and waldorf installed on girlfriend's machine very soon!
Still can't get it to work after lots of refreshing.
But YouTube obviously does work, and seems that will the way to watch.
I did a bit more testing, it seems for me that chromium works better than iceweasel. It is playing first time I click play.
Tried chrome the other day, so I don't think trying chromium would make any difference.
Playing through youtube is ok, but yeah, its not a fix, and I do reckon its quite important that such 'normal' uses of a machine are working in gnu/linux.
Thanks for the ideas though. Much appreciated

I haven't watched 4od in a wee while, but it was working just fine with Chrome on statler. And by just fine, I mean just as miserable as it is under Windows.
I have experienced issues with 4od myself. Sometimes, when I attempt to watch a show, I get shown 3+ minutes of adverts and then nothing. It is quite annoying and it would be good if we could get this sorted.

^ that's what I get. Seems lots of people do across Linux, if they're on newer distros/flash...
4od on youtube is a workaround, but not a fix. Maybe it will come down the line...
Do you tried lightspark ?
Nice one MarcoGuimaraes, I'll have a look.
Incidentally, I did have a fiddle with my router before, and it had an option saying "If you are having problems with video streaming, try turning Multicast [I think 'streaming]". I turned it on and had to restart my machine because the internet stopped working....so not that positive but there might be something there others can make some sense of...
