VPN Doesn't Connect

Hi, I used to use vpn to connect to the network of the university I work at. That way I can download papers, etc., freely, as if I'm on campus.

VPN used to work perfectly when I used Linux Mint 11. I have set up the same pcf file, and connect the same way. On connecting a notification tells me I am successfully connected to vpn. However, when I look at my ip address it stays the same. I get this:

ip addr
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
    inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
    inet6 ::1/128 scope host
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: eth0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN qlen 1000
    link/ether e8:9a:8f:97:5a:04 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: wlan0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP qlen 1000
    link/ether d0:df:9a:4a:98:12 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 192.168.0.103/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global wlan0
    inet6 fe80::d2df:9aff:fe4a:9812/64 scope link
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
4: tun0: <POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1412 qdisc pfifo_fast state UNKNOWN qlen 500
    link/none
    inet 138.253.135.31/24 brd 138.253.135.255 scope global tun0

I don't get it: There seems to be two ip addresses: My own local area network ip, and the vpn one of the university I am connected. But when I try to download files or papers, etc., I am treated as if not connected.

Anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks  smile
