Not talking about shorting anything out...well, kinda...most phones & media players have a push switch behind a tiny paperclip-sized hole that's supposed to reset it to pristine factory settings.

^ I see
I definitely had to short the laptop.
Thanks again Google for saving my ar$e

What has been your problem with Samsung phones?
My Samsung Omnia 2 and my Samsung Galaxy S 2 are getting slower and slower by the time and i have to charge them nearly twice a day.
They only stand a day by disabling Internet and syncing.
My IPhone stands 2 days with heavy Internet use.
My last good Handy was the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 with Ubuntu installed.

I see. I refuse to get an iphone on principal. Not that I could afford one!
My sister has one, my friends have them, they are everywhere. Like a disease.. Bleh!
Sorry no offence to iphone users, I just don't like being like everyone else.

I think the HTC ChaCha will fits your needs good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HTC-ChaCha-Free … 534&sr=1-1
I could never suffer apple because of their political.
I was frustrated with my Windows 8 installation and had the ability for a IMac off 50%.
Then frustrated with my Phones and i had the ability for a IPhone for free.
So now i have a IMac and IPhone and i am very happy with them..

That's why I don't have one anymore. They were great when you could copy/paste, record video, change your keyboard colors, etc. and not one other person with an iPhone could. Now that they can do what they should have from go, they aren't appealing to me as much. I love modding and hacking every electronic I own though, and if it can't be hacked, it is not fun.

Whatever you choose, go for Android at least v.2.3. I don't consider any others.
Forget the physical keyboard, once you get used to the virtual on-screen you won't go back. I had several of them and I strongly recommend the Samsungs, although HTC is also a good maker (but currently not up to par imho).
I had the HTC Tattoo, HTC Hero, currently have the Samsung Galaxy S and the Samsung Galaxy Note. I also had the chance to test the Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy S2 and S3, Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10.
Having that said, for your budget, the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 or the Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300 seems a good choice. There are also versions with dual-SIM capabilty, if you require that, although more expensive.
If you have the chance, I strongly advise you to test them on a shop near you, before buying them. Then you'll know what to expect.
Have a look on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_p_4 … =419150031

Contrary to jotapesse, I'd strongly recommend the physical keypad, especially the wider-format variety that can only be implemented (in a smartphone-sized form factor, anyway) as a slide-out keyboard. Touchscreens, in my experience, always lead to madness.

I guess it's a matter of personal choice/adaptation, then. My last 2 mobile devices with a physical keyboard were the Ericsson MC218/Psion 5mx (best keyboard ever, I miss it) and the Nokia N810 (way worse, but better than most nowadays).
Since them, and for a smartphone sizes, I prefer a better/bigger capacitive touch screen with a good virtual keyboard like Swype or Swiftkey. But to each their own.

Physical keyboards are something I've learned to live without. There was once a time I swore by them, but then I realized that touching a screen and then moving my fingers down to the keyboard got kinda cumbersome. It's a matter of preference though, and I realize some people still prefer them, but it sort of limits your choices in the current handset market.
I'm sorry your purchase didn't work out, but I'd have strongly suggested staying away from used handsets from the start, unless they've been officially refurbished and certified by the manufacturer. Seriously, would you really want something someone else has pressed their face (oil, acne and all) against? It's not the same as buying a used car or guitar, or even a used laptop for that matter.
For Android, I still maintain that (aside from the Nexus line which is over your budget) HTC is probably the best route one has right now with regards to overall "hackability" (handsets supported by custom AOKP/ROMs or AOSP, because you don't really want to use manufacturer skinned Android). You'll have to do your own sorting amongst the available models if you insist on a physical keyboard, though.

I have ordered to Samsung Tocco Lite. Brand new and evening delivery for tonight (6-10pm) as I am impatient and fed up with my unreliable Orange Rio conking out on me.

^ I got mine from Amazon too. I did think about the Lite 2 also, but I only use wifi at home and already have 5 computers in my house so not really worth it for me.

Nothing new.

My phone arrived last night in time and I have been playing around with it.
Touchscreen is pretty responsive and good.
Having problems with th browser accepting cookies (even though it is set to) and also have set it up to download my emails and there seems to be no way for it to just grab the new ones!!
