Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

a'ight, cool beans. Although I don't have the problems you presented (might be related to my dual core), I'll give it a whirr for my pentium D computer.  Thanks for the extra info.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Oh and I assume this would work for i386/x32 computers since the process is just about the same.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Yes, with the exception of the codecs file... that is specific to a 64 bit build

I have amended the How To to choose between 32 or 64 on that file...

Thanks

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Although the codecs are a great initiative, wouldn't any media player from the repo automatically fetch the required codecs?  For example, VLC or mplayer would fetch the required files to play the respective files they are supposed to playback.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

^ Sure, but not always.. it is a package I have always installed and used. With the amount of work I do with music apps those and the other gstreamer files are a bonus install that works for everything.

Just wondering at the advantage of tint2 over an xfce panel?

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

IMO, there is... The xfce4 panels are still missing some key ingredients that you have to use the same launch scripts I created.. IMO, if I have something open and the panel cannot recognize it is open and opens another instance of the app, it sucks... A simple fix that both Tint2 and the xfce4 panel devs seem to miss no matter how many times you remind them of it

In my tests, 3 instances of tint2 open are less in MiB than one xfce4 panel and stay at the same MiB usage where a xfce4 panel can grow and grow...

end /rant

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

VastOne, the RAM usage probably depends on the plugins (especially the bad external ones like volume icon, weather-applet, Orage) - but they exactly make xfce4-panel more attractive for me, at least.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

^ big_smile Alright..!  You have your panels and I'll take tint2 and we shall agree to disagree..

Seriously, I like them both but Tint2 gives me one more option that the panels do not with tasks..
