Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

I'm just torn at the moment about whether or not to install Bumblebee.  (the program to control Optimus)
And yes, everything is working better and faster than the orange distro I had before.  Even been able to get my settings back copying my old settings from the previous distro.  Doing so one at a time of course as needed.  i.e. got my bookmarks, history for FF, my Rednotebook journal entries that I use for keeping a journal.  Very happy so far!!

Thanks sir,
Jed

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Hey VastOne!  Hope your doing well!  I have a quick question.  When I reboot, after typing in my password to login, I get a little rotating circle thingy that eventually turns into a message telling me the Xfce panel hasn't started.  I edited the 'session and startup' to uncheck the kill panel since it isn't starting by default.  So how do I get rid of the message?  I don't want the panel to start.  I have to cancel out like 6 little dialog boxes and then all is fine.

So far everything is going great with this and I'm very thankful to you!  I wont be back on-line till this afternoon.  So no hurry...

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

^ My guess is that you have several panels running at the same time, possibly from a saved Xfce session.  Or that you have something running/starting that is depending on the panel.

I have not seen anything like this. You can use top or htop or xfce4-taskmanager to figure out what it is causing these messages.

You can completely delete that Kill Xfce-Panel entry from Session and Startup. That will make sure it never comes up again

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Please check to see if Task Manager is installed. It is in the right click menu under System... If not.

sudo apt-get install xfce4-taskmanger

Login and do not stop anything..  Run Task Manager ... take a snapshot of it so I can see everything running.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

^ It is very obvious what they are..

xfce4-panel --preferences --display :0.0 --sm-client-id

I have never seen those before... You are saying that the message you have to clear 12 times is Xfce panel hasn't started?

I am searching to find out what this may be.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Also, I only have conky autostarting in one spot in the application autostart section of the 'session and startup' yet the task-manager shows it started twice.  This is also happening every boot/login.  Any ideas?

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Ahhh Conky you do not need to autostart.  .. once it is running, on your logout you have an option to save settings.  Conky will restart from that.

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Ahhhh.  No joy on the panel thing though.  Still have the dialog boxes and start up time is about 60 seconds.

Now if I could just get Bumblebee to play nice!  Gotta do some reading on xorg.conf settings...

Re: Debian Netinstal Sid - Yet Another How To

Next step

Delete these directories

~/.cache/sessions/
~/.config/xfce4/

restart...

Lets see what this does...

Remember that the things in

~/.config/xfce4/

are in /etc/skel and we can get those back if we need to.

Edit - So it solved with the

xfce4-panel -q

?
