A tad of tweakage .... can go a longgggg way.

Another babbling (hopefully helpful) and easy thing to do to make #! even more kickbutt than it already is. Change-edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file to knock swappiness down. My understanding and pretty much the whole time been using gnu/nix, have always done this ( vm.swappiness=10, I mean). From 1st hearing about it, does make things run MUCHO smoother for all us poo folks w low RAM pc's ... ( and/or too dang lazy to upgrade ... I'm both. tongue)

Disk thrashing and swapping byte and not in a good way. If #! is on low spec, it'll definitely help it run smoother. If you're one of those high stepping RAM rich people w 21gbs/ram. ( DAM U ! wink ) Pre-tweaking swappiness isn't going to matter to them anyway. So why not do it in the iso, covering all the bases ?

Vm.swappiness=60 is kinda stupe imo. Yet ... for most distro's I've tried, it's the default. However on an interesting note, did find one who was going the extra mile on swappiness out of the box. Tried PClinuxOS lxde version for awhile, went to lower swappiness as a part of my by then tweak regime and what did I find in the sysctl.conf file ? It was already set to 0 by default. Thought ... hey, good move, more distro's should do this out of the box. Changed it to 10 and went on about my bizness. Only another babbling 2 cents here.

The end: tongue

I'm confused.  My/etc/sysctl.conf has no reference to:

vm.swappiness

be it 60, 10 or 0
