Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

I have a few:

Best so far:  http://www.moongiant.com/phase/today/
EDIT:  Also looking closer, it selects your location via ISP I would guess.
Icons are nice too.

next:
http://stardate.org/nightsky/moon

This is cool, but require one to search for the city:
http://www.timeanddate.com/moon/argentina/buenos-aires
- Direction and Altitude are in real time.

http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phase … ases.phtml

HOLY MOON PHASE BATMAN!
- - What about this:  http://search.cpan.org/~brett/Astro-Moo … onPhase.pm

http://palmyweather.co.nz/moonphase - LOVE the moon phase images on this site - transparent backgrounds.

Just a thought ... also I agree, a basic info moon conky:
Today's phase, Rise, Set times (maybe the images from the site above)
Maybe - the next Full Moon info. other than that ... wing it.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Some good ones there, I did see the calculatorcat.com one, it's like the widget I have on my blog, I wondered if it would be possible to use the info the widget uses to give the moon phase etc, but then use conky for the look of it?

Trying to think of an easy way to do it, but I must admit my skills with this kind of thing are limited.

Many thanks.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Hey, the Moongiant site looks very nice. I think I'll replace Lunaf with Moongiant. Not gonna use their images though as they have a background (non-transparent).

Calculatorcat wants registration, no deal.

^  Yea a slick site ...

Use the little icons from NewZealand:  I already have them. Here they are at full size: 64x64

Will archive and email if interested.  O:)

Something that bothers me about moongiant.com: the moonrise/moonset times.
Do they look wrong for anyone else?

No not really - they do say "Average" - unless you see a place where it's exact times - I can't find that.
Here I see for me in Buenos Aires:

Moonrise: 07:56    MoonSet:   18:43  so moongiant.com is off by 43 minutes  I like timedate{dot}com but it doesn't have Kastoria.  sad

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Alright then, if you're satisfied with average MR/MS times, then it's OK with me.

On second thoughts, the moonrise/moonset times from moongiant.com come from this page:
http://www.moongiant.com/images/rise/

So, every first quarter it's Noon/Midnight, every full moon it's 6PM/6AM, every last quarter it's Midnight/Noon, etc.

It just sounds a bit lazy to me and I'm Greek.

Any opinions? Are you guys OK with this? I personally don't use a lunar script, so I don't care much, it all comes down to you all LUNAtics.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

I'm OK with it, I can see where someone else might come along and say, xyz sit has exact times ... but the argument there is:

1. can't cover all cities in the world.
2. are there mountains between you and the near horizon - times change then.

Average is cool!

What about the icons?

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

All the icons are here, but as I've said they all have dark backgrounds.
See this for example. It'd be ideal for a conky on a dark wallpaper, but I think it would look ugly on a light one.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

I don't mind if the times are approximate an hour or 2 out here or there isn't the end of the world.
I agree that the icons might not suit light wallpapers though.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Hello , first of all I congratulate you all for the excellent work done so far , I like you , I also had problems with the site lunaf.com and accordingly bellisimo conky of TEO does not work anymore , I agree with you on TEO site http://www.moongiant.com images have a background not transparent and agree to use what he has already done on the old script . They are available if you need a hand , I hope to review the phases of the moon on my desk , in a moment you place the desk . see you soon  tongue

I've always considered Teo's scripts like a Debian release: When it's ready we get it.

He has been more than patient with certain sites and users here ---

A conkyrc to come in the following days.
Watch out cause I've renamed this script's folder to 4_Moon (renamed the script from 4 to 5 - the weather.com script's been abandoned).
The info from moongiant.com is saved in a file called raw in a folder called 4_Moon in your home folder. An image is copied from the ~/4_Moon/moonicons folder: today.png.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Okay, dumb question time.

Am I reading the raw file correctly? wanted to make sure as I'm making a conky config to display the various info and want to get it into order.

Lines 1 through to 9 are the current moon forecast for today( May 22nd at time of writing)
Lines 10 to 11 are the moon phase for the month?
Lines 12 through 27 are the previous 2 days forecast
Lines 28 through 44 are the next 2 days forecast

I've included the raw file for reference.

1 - Illumination: 21%
2 - Sun Angle: 0.53
3 - Sun Distance: 151,452,713.68
4 - Moon Distance: 395,646.13
5 - Moon Age: 4.42
6 - Moon Angle: 0.50

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Got kidnapped by my wife last night ...   wink

Strange thing

  1. last night

    1. no approximate moonrise/set times, and

    2. no: Unavailable - to replace them

    3. - -  this morning it is getting 9AM/9PM

  2. also I'm getting no image at all

    1. I think it's going to be a time thing, at a certain time of the they drop that from: http://www.moongiant.com/phase/today

Rough work with some tweaking this morning

You can see how the left and right columns don't match what was almost completed from last night.  sad

Okay, dumb question time.

Not even close to dumb questrions ... wink

Lines 1 through to 9 are the current moon forecast for today( May 22nd at time of writing)

- Yes

Lines 10 to 11 are the moon phase for the month?

- No - that's impossible see this: http://www.moongiant.com/moonphases/May/2015 - there are 4 phases in May

Lines 12 through 27 are the previous 2 days forecast
Lines 28 through 44 are the next 2 days forecast

Yes and Yes.

See easy except for the two mystery lines (10-11) ... Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Teo!

Once again many thanks.

You're welcome  ... on my behalf.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

When I look at the site quoted above I see the moon phases as:
2015_05_22_11_43_11_730x455_Sector11.jpg

I have the script set to:

#put your hemisphere here: n for north, s for south
hemisphere=s

Do people in the northern hemisphere see the same?
Full and New should be the same - the shadows on the others should be reversed.

EDIT:

Look here to see what I mean:  hemispheres
Chosen site shows moon in Norther hemisphere.

Sooooooooooooo I noticed that the script added an "n" or a "s" to the image name:
I added an 'n' to the image names
copied them to a different directory
- renamed them changing n for s
- flipped them horizontally
copied them back to original ~/$HOME/moonicons directory so I have a n01.png s01.png, etc and in comes the image.
