Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Recently came across something I had no idea about.

The view of the moon, while the phase is the same, is reversed in the norther/southern hemispheres.
Moon_North_South.jpg
So I went through moon icons here and flipped them accordingly since they were all "northern hemisphere" views.

Nice catch S11, are we talking about the #5 script?
If so, where did you find that webpage?

TeoBigusGeekus wrote:

At this site: MoonConnection and this page specifically.

I'm talking any script that has moon icons - but I edited the one in: /media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/moonicons/ using:

2b)WUnderground API - All users - 2b_15-2-14

I have three directories:
/media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/moonicons ««-- what the script uses
/media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/moonicons_n
/media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/moonicons_s

Maybe double up on the images with a flag in the script to be set by a the user - one directory with 48 small images

hemi=s  ## n = northern s = southern
{or some such thing}

Images could then be:

  • n01.png

  • n02.png

  • n03.png

  • {snip}

  • n22.png

  • n23.png

  • n24.png

  • s01.png

  • s02.png

  • s03.png

  • {snip}

  • s22.png

  • s23.png

  • s24.png

Then the appropriate image could copied and used:

${image /media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/Moon_phase.png -p 90,0 -s 30x30}

Take a look at my moon next to yours --» 2014_03_19_16_30_00_132x726_Sector11.jpg«-- top right

I'll have to check out the moon script as well.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Script 5 updated. It now supports different icons for the moon depending on whether you live in the northern or southern hemisphere. Awesome catch by S11 as explained in his posts here and here.

Thanks buddy!

What? Oh, no, I haven't changed the WUnderground script, I changed the 5_Moon (Lunaf.com) script.
I'll try to update the first one tomorrow.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

I had an idea yesterday, though i will hardly able to take action here. Would it be possible to implement some kind of tornado (svr) watch / warnings in a conky ? That would be awesome for weather geeks and citizens in the United States as well.

There are several solutions i think of.
Maybe receiving messages from here http://kamala.cod.edu/svr/ or having a direct talk with the National Weather Service.

Nothing drastic changed, just your idea about northern/southern moonicons.

How does it work or did I miss something?
Conky on the left is my old setup in /media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/ where I manually flipped the icons in the /moonicons folder.

Conky on the right is the latest script in ~/2b_Wunderground_API/ with the lua background removed and the date moved to the left.  It still shows a northern hemisphere moon phase.

An Oops! maybe?
2014_03_30_09_34_04_404x805_Sector11.jpg ... naaaaaaa ... not an Oops! - I missed something ... right?

My guess is the new script isn't using them all ... or maybe never did?
2014_03_30_10_03_49_574x455_Sector11.jpg I copied them from weather.com if I recall correctly.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

That's correct, 2b recognises only 8 moon icons.
They correspond to the 8 different moon phases wunderground reports.

5 is a whole different thing: lunaf.com specialises in moon conditions, so it's bound to be more precise about moon phases, ie. more icons.

That bit about the number of images was an after thought, I'll clean up my directory.

My main concern was that it didn't change the moon for the southern hemisphere as seen in the top right corner of each conky.

I see in 'SunMoon' lines 7 & 8 = hemisphere & South, but no way for "2b" to use that.

So I'm thinking, double up on the images, not a whole lot anyway,

North04.png, North07.png, North09.png, North13.png, North17.png, North19.png, North21.png, North24.png
South04.png, South07.png, South09.png, South13.png, South17.png, South19.png, South21.png, South24.png

then in "2b" a variable, which of couse doesn't woke (??), --work-- for me because I don't know what I'm doing.  big_smile

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

@ TeoBigusGeekus  {grovelling in front of} ... Oops! Sorry! wink wink

?????  Not a clue what happened, I downloaded:
/media/8/Teo_weather/2b_Wunderground_API_23-3-14.tar.gz
and extracted it to
/home/sector11/2b_Wunderground_API/

My working version resides in
/media/5/Conky/Teo_wun/ and "2b" is still called: wunder, and there are also 25 conkys in that directory - the ones in the archive you have online and all the test ones I did.

So I looked in
/home/sector11/2b_Wunderground_API/
and 2b is not what you show above ...

I go to look in the archive in /media/8/Teo_weather/ and there I see my error:

  • /media/8/Teo_weather/2b_Wunderground_API_15-2-14.tar.gz

  • /media/8/Teo_weather/2b_Wunderground_API_23-3-14.tar.gz

Three guess as to which one I clicked on to do this  :8 embarrassing  :8  test, and the first two don't count!

OK, now I have the clue!
... and it works as advertised: 2014_03_30_15_17_23_132x712_Sector11.jpg  {sigh} DUM! DUM! DUM!

Am I mad ...
  lol  lol  lol  lol  lol

NO! not at all ... just  :8  :8  :8  :8  :8  :8

I'd bet your paycheck at 100:1 that we are not to only two that have this feeling.
My paycheck - sorry, wife has dibs on that one. wink wink

Trust me - do it now!  but 'archive them' don't delete them.

I have you beat .. I have 90% of all conkys I have ever created or tweaked ... and still have every weather script I ever came across since Dec 2007, although not multiple versions of all of them, but a few yes.

And I am retired!   lol  lol  lol  lol

Hi, the last i typed it in by memory (it was like you said! big_smile )

So, here comes .conkyrc_1a_int:

The rest later on

PS. I preferred Liberation bold for visibility smile

PS2. Is there a reasonable way to make "my" .conkyrc with the .conkyrc_1a_int one or will i have to run conky two times?

OK - font is not an issue.
Here is your #! conky and your weather conky running togeather
http://s20.postimg.org/u841v55ah/2013_08_08_16_02_36_1920x1080_Sector11.jpg

Did you copy /1a_accuweather_conkyweather_font to your home folder?

/home/sector11/1a_accuweather_conkyweather_font

Changes I made in the weather conky:

own_window yes
own_window_type normal #override ## again so the own_window_hints take affect
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager ## if you want it on all desktops:
#own_window_hints undecorated,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager,sticky ## add sticky to the end
own_window_colour brown

minimum_size 280 550 ## to adjust for a minor font change
maximum_width 280

#font freesans -12
#xftfont Arial:size=9
xftfont Liberation Sans:bold:size=9

# Text alignment, other possible values are commented
alignment top_left ### to keep it away from the #! conky
#alignment top_right
#alignment bottom_left
#alignment bottom_right

Merging it with your #! conky is very possible - you'll probably have to change the font size in the conkys

What is your screen resolution?

And just for information: there is no problem running more than one conky, I run multiple conkys on different desktops.

Sorry, if i'm turning back on this:

Would there be a way to use www.meteosuisse.ch instead of accuweather - in the script ?

Thanks in advance for your patience!

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

A whole new script would be required...
Which place in Switzerland did you have in mind anyway?

Sorry for jumping in lately (but i've to earn my money, sometimes ... ;-) ). It would be Les Marecottes (cap: 1922) . I adapted your script for accuweather to that location but i find the forecast is not really very precise. In any case thanks for your reply!
