I just tried out your modified script.  Is this what you meant to happen?

Seems to me that only the word "night" should be indented.

Edit:  Sorry for the quality of the screenshot.  I used shutter to take the screenshot.

If it works for you just remove the numbers before the ${image} calls.

Thanks Sector11!  It worked like a charm.  big_smile   I was on the right track.  I was playing with the same numbers, but I was using larger numbers thinking that doing so would increase the text area for each forecast.

There remains one small problem, though.  The last image is cutoff slightly at the bottom.  I think increasing the vertical area of the overall display would resolve the issue.  Any idea how to do that?  Last night I discovered that commenting out the use_xft yes line decreased the vertical area.

There is actually a couple of ways to do that:
1.  Leave a blank line or two at the bottom of the conky, OR, and IMHO better;
2.  above text:

# Minimum & maximum size of text area
minimum_size 250 900 ## w|h
maximum_width 250

Adjust that 900 to your needs.

Conky Variables - below TEXT

image
     <path to image> (-p x,y) (-s WxH) (-n) (-f interval)

Renders an image from the path specified using Imlib2. Takes 4 optional arguments: a position, a size, a no-cache switch, and a cache flush interval. Changing the x,y position will move the position of the image, and changing the WxH will scale the image. If you specify the no-cache flag (-n), the image will not be cached. Alternately, you can specify the -f int switch to specify a cache flust interval for a particular image. Example: ${image /home/brenden/cheeseburger.jpg -p 20,20 -s 200x200} will render 'cheeseburger.jpg' at (20,20) scaled to 200x200 pixels. Conky does not make any attempt to adjust the position (or any other formatting) of images, they are just rendered as per the arguments passed. The only reason $image is part of the TEXT section, is to allow for runtime modifications, through $execp $lua_parse, or some other method.

The -p command uses the top/left corner of an image for a refernce point.
LUA uses the centre.  big_smile

YUP, perfect ... after a certain time of day the DAY info at the top is dropped and the "Tonight" forecast prevails.

In the morning you'll see

Today
                 Tonight

Friday
                 Friday Night

until late in the day that is.  big_smile

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Hmm...the issue had already resolved itself.  Using your suggestion doesn't appear to make a difference at the moment.

I really like this variation, but would prefer just each day to show with the "hr" with the forecast text and icons showing; no indented title text.  For example:

Day_________________________
day forecast                 icon
night forecast              icon
Next Day____________________
day forecast                 icon
night forecast              icon
....

The only unknown right now is what happens when "Tonight" becomes "Today".  We'll find out.  wink

01/30/2014 Update 01:  Modified above code to replace multiple calls to run the NWSforecast.sh script with a blank line.

When "Tonight" becomes "Today", the display is messed up.  Instead of day-night icons for each day, you get night-day icons.  Instead of "Wednesday" for a title, you get "Wednesday Night."  I've been playing around with code to work around this and have an idea, but haven't been able to implement it yet.  I'm currently thinking that using if_matches might be the trick, but I need to figure out how to use it.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Continuing with the NWS script...I notice that some forecasts show up without a temperature.  Looking through the files, it appears that the forecast data is parsed to a "d" file as that file contains some forecast data without the high/low temperature.  However, it appears that all of the forecast data, to include the high/low temp, is brought down from the NWS site based on my observation of some of the other text files.

By the way, I'm not sure if others are aware of this, but http://nws.noaa.gov now redirects to www.weather.gov.  I believe they prefer that you use the second address.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

@Teos...Sorry to keep bugging you about the NWS script, but I want to make a suggestion for the next update/release.  Most of your other scripts are a copy and paste affair.  Reading the instructions for the NWS leads one to believe the same thing applies.  However, if you copy and paste the conky_forecast_nws folder to home, then you're missing the conkyrc_nws file as well as the 3_README-INFO folder.

I propose that everything be in the 3_conky_forecast_nws_usa folder, including the NWSforecast.sh script.  This will require changing both the conkyrc_nws and NWSforecast.sh scripts to reflect the new working folder.

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

ANNOUNCEMENT
Facelift of the 3_NWS script - new, better conkyrc, some additions in the script itself, etc. Thanks to KrunchTime for his valuable feedback.
I hadn't touched this one since 2009-2010 but it still works: if you don't mind its rather Spartan look, you're in the US and you like stability, that's the script to go.
By the way, I also tried the 2_WUnderground ICAL script and it still works as well (untouched for some years too). Me thinks that I spend all the time with the crappy Accuweather and Weather sites and I miss the real gems...

Thank YOU for your valuable feedback my friend; if I rock, you JAZZ  tongue !

...as for the METAR thing, although it looks promising, it doesn't provide a lengthy forecast.
The predictions I've managed to collect are for the next 24 hours at the best.
Besides, no data for Kastoria...  roll

No, something like NWS's xml, or Wunderground's ical pages would be the ideal...

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

I think I've gone off the deep end here: I might try to figure out a way to make a space weather conky...you know, to round it out. I have earth forecast, moon forecast, why not space forecast? smile

My inspiration was the side bar at SpaceWeather.com. Sure it's all pretty useless info to me, but, well, it's cool. I'm not sure if I should scrape that page (probably a bad idea) or figure out where on NOAA/NWS's Space Weather site that info is.

My guess is I'll fail and give up, but I might learn some lua. Plus, well, that NOAA Space Weather data site is bit of a time hole!

Everyone forgets space weather until their cell phones stop working due to a solar flare! But satellite folks? They follow this information religiously!

killall -CONT conky

You need an API key, get it here:
http://www.wunderground.com/weather/api

and a location (obviously):
http://www.wunderground.com/

The format of the API address is

http://api.wunderground.com/api/YOUR_API_KEY_HERE/conditions/forecast10day/astronomy/hourly/satellite/q/Greece/kastoria.json

or

http://api.wunderground.com/api/YOUR_API_KEY_HERE/conditions/forecast10day/astronomy/hourly/satellite/q/CA/San_Francisco.json

etc., you get the idea (you can even use zip codes or airport codes - check Wunderground API's documentation page for more info).

The script downloads the following API features:

1)conditions
Current weather conditions: the file Conditions is created and the Now.png icon is extracted from it.

2)forecast10day
What is says: the files Forecast and Simple_Forecast are created. Icons for the next 10 days' conditions (d1.png, d2.png, etc) and for the next 10 nights' conditions' (n1.png, n2.png, etc) are copied from the Forecast_Images folder, which you must have inside the script's folder.

3)astronomy
Sun and moon info: the file Moon_Sun is created and the icon Moon_phase.png copied from the moonicons folder, which you must also have inside the script's folder.

4)hourly
Hourly weather info for the next 36hours: the file Hourly is created and also 36 icons (h1.png, h2.png, etc) for the next 36 hours' weather conditions.

5)satellite
Satellite images: commented out by default because it slowed down the script. This section downloads 3 satellite images. You can uncomment that part of the script if you want them.

necessary_icons.tar.gz

As always with new scripts, beta testers are more than welcome - your feedback is valuable.

Enjoy!

Space Weather .. empty tonight and tomorrow .... more emptyness!

Side Note:  links bookmarked.  Thanks

Everyone forgets space weather until their cell phones stop working due to a solar flare! But satellite folks? They follow this information religiously!

That's why I bookmarked the links ... I'm not a "satelite folk" but I'm interested enough in "space" that I get a NASA newsletter weekly.  big_smile

OK, can not tell a lie I whiped this up just now ... fast huh!
lol  lol  lol  lol  lol
not true - I alpha tested this with/for Teo ... Does not even touch on all the info supplied, and still has a couple of blank spots for this format that needs (or removed) filling in.

Gotta run - make more!

When running that conky (nothing else running) uses 1% Average CPU.  That's nice!

Sorry, I didn't want to seem arrogant - "Oh look at that fat, super script I've created and be spellbound by its output" - it's just that I can't decide which info to include and which to exclude...

No!!!!!! ... not even close my friend. For you to come across as even "seems arrogant" let alone arrogant I think you'd really have to practice and work hard at it.  Just not in you ... at least from what I've seen over the years.

And I understand your dilemma ... I was the same ... where do I start, ... OK; here ... oh say, look at that ... or this .... Yea that's good ... hmmmmm what's that tidbit over there ...

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

Thanks S11, I appreciate it!

As for the conky, it'll probably go as the default, or one of the defaults, for this script...

No problem.  For an OOTB experience one of the defaults is an obvious pick.  There is enough info here that no conky will satisfy all thrusts for weather info.  big_smile

In fact, unless one uses "tiny fonts" I doubt it could be all put on one screen showing everything the script captures.

My samples are simply to show what I've done ... nothing more ... well and testing things too!

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/MoonGiant)

My second rendition to Teo's new Wunderground script:

It uses a modified background by falldown:
