Oh, yeah, it's definitely fun. As some of my essays last term know to their cost... tongue

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

FVWM is my favourite too, and spent entirely too much time tweaking it.

I feel spoiled even when struggling - I'm usually trying to get rid of some rough edges in functionality I wouldn't have anywhere else, and there's probably a way to do it cleanly.

LEGO won't be ready for the average user until it comes pre-assembled, in a single  unified look, and glued together so it doesn't come apart.

I3 is really great, but nowadays I prefer the built in window manager of Crunchbang Waldorf 11  smile

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

Hmm, have been thinking for a while that I could probably add reviews of another 15 or so window managers to this thread... Might start on that project after this term's exams are over.

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

I have never heard of i3 before. I have been so focused on Openbox that I never really took the time to see if there was something maybe better or different than Openbox. I will have to try out i3 very soon. Hope it is not to hard to install and get going. smile

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

Nice review - have to say amiwm replicates the first time I used a GUI.
Wb3, may look bad, but it was better than 1.3 :-)
I should think it is lightweight, It ran on a 68000 Motorola.
I was a bit disappointed that the new released commodore Linux didn't use it.

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

I did find a lot more option in the amiwmrc, multiple desktops were pretty cool.
Nice reviews :-)

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

Packrat: they do have a wiki, though not the best window-manager wiki I have ever seen.
Wuxmedia: Yes, there are a few more interesting amiwm options, but not many. The other interesting one is the keyboards module, though it only has four functions implemented: bring to front, send to back, iconify, and switch virtual desktops.

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

It would be nice to add the new reviews to the index on the first page, after a while it would be near impossible to keep track of the WMs which have been reviewed.

Re: 30 Window Managers in 30 days

^ I will subscribe to this thread and when a new review hits I will add it to the first page

I can also go through and find the ones done after the originals and add them

Edit - Added the two by joek to the index of the first page

Great job! I've always wanted to know the differences between various wms, but haven't got the time to do it by myself... You've made my day  smile
