I'm just wondering how many people running #! Statler Openbox have configured their system to display icons on the desktop and if so what method did they use to achive this and how well does it work?

^Hi, i've had a look but can't make my mind up, that's why i was wondering what everyone else had done. The safest bet to me looked like install the xfce4desktop but then i though i might aswel install Xfce instead of openbox.

I remember you can easily have pcmanfm do the desktop icons.

^Thanks, i shall have a look into that, tried to install spaceFM which used to PCmanFM-MOD i believe, which can also do it, but I have unresolved dependancies.

@Shengchieh.. Had a look at iDesk and I'm not sure it's exactly what I'm looking for.
@johnraff.. I think xfdesktop4 is probably more what i'm looking for. I presume that you are running Openbox?

Of course Xfce is a lot more than xfdesktop - there's a whole set of configuration apps, window manager, etc. I just run xfdesktop along with the usual openbox #! setup (which already uses Thunar, the xfce file manager). I don't find losing the openbox desktop right-click menu any problem - it's easy enough to bind it to eg the "Menu" key instead.
A full xfce setup which substitutes openbox for the xfce window manager is another possibility, but for me too much of openbox's lightness seemed to get lost that way. It's more complicated to set up too.

^ Thanks for that tip, I'm not at my PC at present but I assume that 'Screenlets' is available in Synaptic? I use to use them back when I ran Ubuntu etc, is that the Screenlets you are refering to?

Yes it is, the name of the package is, indeed, "screenlets"
