Hey guys! I have a quick question.
Quite a few of the gnome things are now GTK3-based. Is it just me, or are there random bugs with the toolkit itself? For example, take gedit. I click in the textarea. Now, no matter how much I try, I cannot click on anything outside of the textarea. The only way I know of so far is to press Alt-F which will put me in the menu. I then press Esc and can click on the random buttons that I wanted to click on in the first place. Is this just me or is this the norm?

Hmmm...interesting....does your gtk work okay? (I'm assuming you're running testing or unstable, which should contain the gtk3-version of gedit)

Must be the debian package. All gtl3 stuff works fine on Arch, besides the know issues of course. Look for their bugtracker at the gnome 3 website and also for the debian bugtracker.

That's crazy dude. So the input area is borked.? Maybe report it to launchpad if upstream has a fix.

No idea if you use input methods (like ibus, SCIM), but I had this problem when ibus-gtk3 was not yet installed.

That apparently does not help...when I start typing, I can no longer click on any of the toolbar buttons or menus. I must first right-click somewhere outside of the textarea and then I will be able to select the toolbar button/menu.

Chaanakya, do you get the same problem if you install gvim?
sudo apt-get install vim-gtk
I've experienced no issues with it. Scrot for you here.

gvim is gtk2 though, which I have no issues with.

Where did you get GTK3 from? Wheezy repo's? I find it to be pretty rough around the edges. Though I hear 3.2 is pretty good.

No problems with Gtk3 here, they only did not fit in my theme with the rest of Gtk2 but I ditched some Gtk3 apps originally from Gnome for lighter more native Xfce apps. That means that Gedit had to go but I cannot remember any problem with it under Wheezy.

Have you tried launching gedit from a terminal so that you can see if it throws any warnings? I had some canberra errors in gedit at one point when I had some dependency issues (installed GNOME Shell from Experimental). Once I saw the warnings, I was able to track down the problematic packages and update them.

It doesn't come up with any warnings

Gedit needs some work... It's blitzing like crazy for me in all sorts of weird ways. So I went on a hunt for a new editor, and having been inspired by Corenominals move to Geany in the new statler update I'm giving Geany a go as well... I mostly just wish I could get a dark grey background on it...
一期一会 Let it be good.

I use leafpad now. I'm just trying to figure out if they really bungled up this time or if it's just a config issue. Then again, this happened to me since day 0 with gtk3...
