I know this has been posted about a lot, but none of the threads I've come across so far have helped me.
I finally managed to remove the adobe-flashplugin package and replace it with flashplugin-nonfree (also tried mozilla-flashplugin), but I'm still unable to get sound for YouTube, IMDB.com, etc (tried it in Firefox and Google Chrome).
Sound is working fine elsewhere.
i wonder if i missed the warning

What repo is that from? I'm not showing anything in Synaptic...
EDIT: I found it in Squeeze, but it's only available for i386. I'm using 64-bit

Are you using ALSA, PulseAudio, or something else? Also, I found the package in sid (although it's still only for i386).

Then you honestly should not need that extrasound package. Try running your browser from the command-line and see if there are any errors.

I should've thought of that

This is weird - I get the exact same errors (Chromium, right?), but my Flash audio works just fine (I'm using PulseAudio though, so...). This is right after starting the browser, right? How about when you play a Flash video?

OK - ran Google Chrome from the terminal (although I also have no sound in Firefox ), and then hit a YouTube video:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

Wait...do you have a media player or something open in the background? That could be causing the problem.
