Comments: #! 8.10.1 runs smooth. Atheros wireless works as expected with madwifi. To my surprise webcam runs snappy in cheese! Sound works out of the box. I am having troubles with the volume wheel disabling my keyboard. Seems to be a bug with the new keyboard drivers in Intrepid. I have not tested the card reader. All in all feels like a new computer.

Running crunchbang on both my laptops, it runs excellent on them. If I get a chance I'll try installing lite on my old gateway with a 500mhz cpu and see how it runs, the screen is cracked though thats why I don't still use it.

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

The latest iteration of Projekt Kraptop ran Crunchbang very well.  Although I am not happy with the 800x600 screen resolution on this machine, so I may be upgrading already (it's only been 3 days since I procured this one).

Name:  Compaq Armada 110
Processor:  Intel Celeron 700mhz
Screen:  12" something
RAM:  512mb
HDD:  10gb
Optical Drive:  CD
Graphics:  Savage
Sound:  ?
Network:  None yet, but I know my D-link card will work

Comments: Everything works pretty much as it should. Took me a minute to get the onboard mic to work, but that was just a matter of messing with the Volume Controls.

The idea behind Projekt Kraptop is to keep a crappy lappy on hand at all times so I have something I can use to carry with me to places and not care if it gets dropped, spilled on or even stolen.  I keep my data on my keychain and just run the OS and apps from the machine.  Discovering Openbox last summer kind of spoiled me.  I can take a small step up in specs on Kraptop and really gain a TON of performance.  I am eyeing a piii 1ghz right now...

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

I tried #! Live 8.10.01 from usb stick on my work laptop, Compaq nc6320. All started to work out of the box. Wlan was detected, sounds are working, volume keys are fuctioning properly etc. Only bluetooth I didn't test.

My work machine, Compaq ncc6320:
CPU: Intel T2500 2,0 GHz, L2 cache 2048 KB
RAM: 512 MB
HDD: 120 GB
Screen: 15.4" normal
Video: Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML integrated
Sound: Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family)
Network:  Ethernet Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5788, Wlan: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
4 x USB 2.0, 1 x Fire, Bluetooth

Last year I tested quite many linux distros on this laptop in order to have usb linux while I'm travelling abroad. Many distros have been worked well but for now on I will absolutely use #!.
