Semplice - New distro with #! look.

It's a new distro with Openbox and Conky, based on Debian unstable and looks almost like #!, but in dark blue.

The dynamic Openbox menu sounds nice.

That sounds interesting, seems there is a boom in Debian based minimal distros now.

Corenominal wasn't the first for 'pioneering'  Debian based minimal distros, but he certainly inspired many others to follow the crunchbang look as can be seen in the numerous @bang distros.

I am not quiet sure, but are you not one of the Antix guys? smile This is also a great Debian based minimal distro.

Re: Semplice - New distro with #! look.

I've been around the forums for a while, but don't comment much. This is a nice place to be and I have learnt a lot from posters here eg scrotwm.

I like crunchbang as well, more so since it switched to Debian. It is a very fast and light, well thought out distro for old and new boxes.

Minor point, but on topic about semplice:- I think corenominal may have made a mistake in dropping the 486/586 versions of crunchbang, but I note semplice uses a 486 kernel so maybe it can offer a Debian based openbox for PI/K5/K6 boxes.

Re: Semplice - New distro with #! look.

Semplice - moar purpler and unstabler. Good luck to 2.0 Alpha 1.
@anticapitalista - the anti in AntiX is always welcome.
Anti - feel free to add http://antix.mepis.org/ to your sig.
As much as I enjoy #!, I really appreciate anticapitalista's efforts.
The AntiX forums have a welcoming nature, similar to #!.
I'll assume that in each case that is a reflection of the distro author's personality.
I appreciate corenominal, anticapitalista, and the inspiration I get from the stable, testing, and unstable minimal distro folks.

Re: Semplice - New distro with #! look.

AntiX has been around before #! and i'd daresay its close to being the pioneer of minimalist debian distros big_smile

Semplice looks quite promising and what makes it special is that it's Italian smile

^antiX is the first distro I've known with a tiling wm installed by default. It has wmii before #! had dwm in previous versions.

About Semplice, I like also that it's Italian. I tried out on my eeepc 1000H and everything works fine.

Which version were you using, bastiano?
I've downloaded the Semplice Linux 2.0 Alpha 1 and neither the burnt CD nor the USB keys (dd and Unetbootin) were able to boot on my 1000H nor my 901.

Re: Semplice - New distro with #! look.

the normal #! procedure for installing works well with Semplice.

I've just tried it on my 1001PX and it's quite nice!

I  simply dd'ed the Semplice 2.0 alpha image to my stick and it boots fine on my desktop and my trusty old IBM Thinkpad T42

The purple theme is pleasing to the eyes and it matches their forum's colors too

I just downloaded the version that is in the front page: Semplice_2.0alpha1_121.0.iso   and made the usb with Unetbootin.
When writing my previous post I forgot that the display was a bit smaller than the screen of the laptop, making a narrow margin at both sides of the screen; but I thought that it could be a configuration easy to fix.

It sounds like you are missing a proprietary driver to give you more display options.

Re: Semplice - New distro with #! look.

Downloaded the same iso, but from another mirror (nb: no md5sum anywhere to find) and dd it to a USB stick. This time it worked correctly.
Semplice is CPU greedy! Display too big for the computer's screen.

I must have been spoiled using Crunchbang for such long a time, because I was not really impressed by Semplice (but I reckon having a distro in Italian must be very interesting for  Italian users).

The conky in Semplice is a little large though but the font size can be changed to make it smaller. Might suggest to g7 (the dev) to make it a smaller font but users can change the conky layout to suit them
