Thanks for the making a cool distro Corenominal! It had been my longest installed distro before I got curious about gentoo smile It was a fun distro while it lasted.

I attempted to right click extract a .zip that's perfectly fine and I know works with file-roller and it say no suitable archive manager found. I can however click on the archive which will open it up in file-roller and manually extract it... Unzip worked, I just didn't unzip it in the location I had the archive in.

Hmm are you sure it's still installed? Or maybe you aren't spelling it right or something?
What does this show?

dpkg --get-selections | grep lux

#4 Re: Help & Support (Crunchbang 11 "Waldorf") » Having trouble with program F.lux » 2014-02-04 14:55:30

To uninstall a program do

sudo apt-get remove program's_name

for example to uninstall firefox you'd do

sudo apt-get remove firefox

. Not sure what's up with the flickering but there's a similar program called redshift for the gui version

sudo apt-get install gtk-redshift

#5 Re: Help & Support (Testing/Unstable) » Not recording from line in (solved) » 2013-12-26 18:41:43

Ok I noticed the mic was muted in input devices for some reason and now it's recording in a really loud manner, so distorted and loud it doesn't sound good at all. I'm going to mess with the volume levels on both pavucontrol and audacity until it's back around the same recording volume rate.

Edit: yeah that solved that thanks for the help smile Input volume was around 13% on the mic last time it sounded like, I'm trying a little lower than that.

I got myself a Korg DS-10, a nice synthesizer program for Nintendo DS  (yes this is an official cartridge and not some homebrew/flash cart, check it out it's pretty cool big_smile) So I have a line in cable and I hooked it up to my DS and the computer and it recorded to audacity after I set the output to analog input on pavucontrol I believe. Well I try doing that again and nothing is getting recorded on audacity hmm I didn't do any upgrades or anything like that on #!. I just don't understand why it's not working.

#7 Re: Help & Support (Testing/Unstable) » X is whacky » 2013-12-24 17:40:49

Hmm maybe some update fixed something, startx still results in x dying if I go to tty but starting up slim nothing bad happens when I go to tty smile

Edit: sometimes it works right and sometimes it does what it wants.

I tried to run

ideviceinstaller -l

with my ipod plugged in and I get

usbmuxd_connect: Error: Connection to usbmuxd failed: Connection refused
Could not connect to lockdownd. Exiting.

It used to be working. I also tried compiling some other versions of ideviceinstaller but they won't make/build hmm

Well I think this one's done: Satellite and here's some other cool thing I started working on: Sidvasion (yeah I know the title's kinda lame I should probably change it later when it gets done XD)

Edit: updated a link

#10 Re: Help & Support (Testing/Unstable) » Dist-upgrade gave tons of errors (solved I suppose) » 2013-11-11 04:41:23

Also I finally unblacklisted the webcam module (it used to freeze up the whole system on older kernels) and it refused to work on g+ hangouts at all even after doing a sudo modprobe uvcvideo and installing the g+ plugin. Oddly it works fine on my win XP vm on vbox. lsusb reports the webcam as Bus 001 Device 004: ID 13d3:5710 IMC Networks UVC VGA Webcam .

Edit: hmm tested with camorama and it worked after sudo modprobe uvcvideo fine, maybe it's a g+ issue I should bug them about big_smile

This dist-upgrade was done on testing. There were many more errors, this was just the main persistent one I saw, if you want to see all of them just let me know.

Edit: well I rebooted and tried a dist-upgrade again and nothing needed to be upgraded so I guess everything went fine.

I have:

Sunvox
LMMS
Renoise (Works on wine but I prefer to use it in a win XP vm)
Milkytracker (I've yet to make a song with this)
Famitracker (I've yet to make a song with this. Works on wine but I find it works better for me in a win XP vm)
Hydrogen (Haven't used this for a song yet)
Goattracker (I started trying to do some stuff with it but it's complicated and no one can tell me how to get past it glitching up or something... hmm )

Edit: actually I also have:

klystrack (Haven't really done anything with it as it's kinda complicated, it's sort of like a mix between milkytracker and goattracker with more of the goattracker complexity.)
lgpt (LittleGPTracker Haven't even started the program up yet. It's modeled after lsdj (Little Sound DJ for gameboys) and from some sample tunes I heard on their site, I assume lgpt makes gameboy music.)

@MarioMaster - Thanks for listening. Why not add some synths to it? I also agree with buttonmasher, your latest track sounds good. Too short though  smile

@spooky - Sounds pretty good to me smile Sort of Dream Theater style, which I quite like. Fancy adding something to my track or putting up one of your own for some collaboration?

I give you the electronic beehive (12k). Hang on to your hats. (levels may need adjusting)

@kbmonkey -  big_smile

To the trackers/synth guys, any of you willing to let me try adding some guitar to some of your stuff?

Yeah, I'm not done with it, it'll probably get worked on next week when I'm not as busy. I just wanted to post what I had so far big_smile Ooh I would love some guitar but not sure when I'd have some time for a collab.

Here's a simple guitar and bass line idea. It's just three minutes of the same riff repeating. Don't be too critical, I just jotted it down to start things off.

Do whatever you want with it as long as it's shared here for others to add to or comment on. I'm open to suggestions/looking for volunteers. Chop it up, change the drums, add a middle eight, choruses, verses, shred over the top of it, whatever you come up with.

I can upload individual parts if anyone wants/needs.

I guess there should be a soundcloud page or similar. What do you think?

@HALO - Big, loud mixes and really strong beats. Real 'Pro' sounding.

@gazpacho - nice ambient sounds, very chilled  smile

Dawiba I rather like that as is big_smile Today was a good day for creativity (and not studying XD) https://db.tt/sxNoHKCI <- lmms for a change.

Agreed. That's good stuff. The quality is crazy good. What are you using to accomplish that, if you don't mind my asking? What's your setup?

Thanks man, I was just fooling around in lmms (linux multimedia studio, lmms in the repos) smile

I'd go for a.

static builds with "libvo-aacenc" are here;

Here's some crap from back in 2009 when I was serious about trying to get better at metal. I was really trying to get sweeps down. Listening to a lot of Origin at the time.

I like that second one smile

I tried to convert a music file to .m4a (yes boo lame format, but I have hardly any space on my ipod touch hence the .m4a. I would ditch the ipod touch for some nice android player equivalent or better but no money to buy that currently.) with audacity, which uses ffmpeg to convert, and the .m4a file output by audacity has 0 bytes O_O ...

Edit: for now I used my windows xp vm and audacity on there with ffmpeg to get my fix, but I would still like this to be working on linux itself smile

Another track uploaded - bit longer than usual, but never mind.

Hope you enjoy it  smile

I kinda liked it, I have a feeling I wouldn't with vocals, it'd probably be too country for me XD I'm mostly a metalhead/rocker and cool electronic music guy big_smile

Some of my top favorites:

Edit: Oh and I like these too

I've been recording lots of riffs and bits and pieces for years. But I've only really finished one song.

Here's a fun, very rough, track that's a WIP idea I've wanted to do for a very long time.

A metal version of Mega Man 2 from Nintendo. I want to redo every stage but I've only figured out a few parts here and there.

Bubble Man stage.

Here's the song I finished last year. It's groovy, shoegaze type stuff. (My favorite stuff is from 4:18 on)

Nice, I think An Isolated Event might sound even cooler with some singing.

So, here's my first ever piece of music made with MilkyTracker and Hydrogen (put together in Audacity) - it's definitely nothing fancy, more me trying out the software, but here it is. The timing's a bit off in places; MilkyTracker and Hydrogen seem to have ever so slightly different definitions of 125bpm, but never mind...

Not bad, hmm good idea on using Hydrogen as well.

photonucleon just keep at it. constantly make samples and beats wit no expectations, you will surprise yourself!

Thanks for your advice! smile What I'm just trying to work out at the moment is what each of the columns in each MilkyTracker track are for - the first three are, if I'm correct, [note name] [-] [octave], (and the fourth/fifth are the instrument?) but I have no idea what the other columns do, despite my tinkering (i.e. putting random numbers in to see what happens)...

What kbmonkey said. My problem was just trying to start something in my own style and not just doing what I thought should come out of it  I have something that sounds somewhat decent big_smile

Edit: Well as to not waste post space here, this is done (they're essentially the same but on the drifter one, the bass synth fades out).
