I am having the same problem, but unlike OP, the following instruction did not work on mine. I have the same wireless adapter as him, I am using a Toshiba Satellite C850-B559

xaos52 wrote:

Does the card work again after you modprobe the wireless module manually?

sudo modprobe rtl8723e

this is what I get after I did what you instructed

sudo modprobe rtl8723
FATAL: Module rtl8723 not found.

also, when I run rfkill this is what I get:

rfkill list
0: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

I found other thread about wi-fi problem but they all have their wifi or wlan detected

Johnraff, I already registered on BL. I haven't installed it yet.
Schim, Thanks for the help, I haven't solved this yet. I can't login into my #!, I will be changing to BL Hydrogen then I'll try out Serviio Media Server again. I'll post in BL soon.

I figured out I need to install JAVA to run Serviio.
This was on the terminal after I installed Java.

Replies: 5

I tried Serviio on my Windows laptop and want to install it on a smaller notebook running on #!.
I downloaded the .tar.gz file and extracted it.
I read the README.txt then follow the instruction for linux.

2)  Linux  -  run Serviio server with bin/serviio.sh (with -stop attribute to stop a running instance). To start the console run bin/serviio-console.sh.

1. I don't know how to run, I tried clicking it and nothing happens.
      -I tried right click on the file > Properties > Permission > Allow this file to run as a program (still nothing happens)
      -I understand that it runs on the background but I check it on my phone and still can't detect it.
2. Serviio doesn't have a web interface so they made the serviio-console.sh I tried click it also and nothing happens(maybe it needs to be set up through the console, no console appeared) even if I right click > Execute    nothing happens

Any help is appreciated. I'll try to understand what you will be suggesting. Thanks

ohnonot wrote:

what sort of internet connection does your laptop (the machine hosting transmission) have?

how are you starting transmission on your laptop?
if you're using transmission GUI (gtk3 most probably), have you enabled the web interface? how exactly?

have you tried connecting to the transmission daemon directly through your phone's browser?

@HoaS: i suspect the android app offers exactly that as a seperate app.

I just clicked the Transmission that came with #!
I think this Transmission GUI is gtk
I don't know if this is right, this is how I did it: while on Transmission, click "Edit", then click "Preferences" , go to "Web" tab, then check "Enable web client"
If by web interface you mean opening Transmission from a web browser, after checking "Enable web client", you can go to the browser and type this http://your.device.ip.address:9091 (you can change 9091 if you are using a different port) then you will be askend for a username and password(same as what you typed on the web tab in the Transmission GUI) then you will be able to manage the downloads of your device through the browser.
BUT, if you are far more advanced than me which I assume you are and you are not using the transmission-gtk GUI, you can configure  the settings.json this way:

    "rpc-authentication-required": true,
    "rpc-bind-address": "127.0.0.1",
    "rpc-enabled": true,
    "rpc-password": "yourpassword",
    "rpc-port": 9091,
    "rpc-url": "/transmission/",
    "rpc-username": "ohnonot",
    "rpc-whitelist": "127.0.0.1",
    "rpc-whitelist-enabled": false

No, I haven't tried it on my phone, but I tried connecting through the browser of another laptop.
You are right I am referring to a separate android app which basically makes a GUI to remotely control your Transmission instead of the usual way of accessing it through a web browser.

#7 Re: Help & Support (Crunchbang 11 "Waldorf") » [SOLVED] ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED on Transmission Remote » 2015-08-25 05:27:25

HOORAY!
I solved it already. After trying diffenrent settings, I found out that the error was the wrong IP address. I used ipchicken.com to check my IP address, then it came to me that maybe it is showing the IP of my router so I tried it on my phone, same IP address given by ipchicken.com. So I googled on how to look for my laptop's IP address and used this:

ip addr show

also, I
changed my settings.json into this:

    "rpc-authentication-required": true,
    "rpc-bind-address": "127.0.0.1",
    "rpc-enabled": true,
    "rpc-password": "{93951ea0f45c0aa2cf2a79957d10999e3a4fd6e9MNCvmS41",
    "rpc-port": 9091,
    "rpc-url": "/transmission/",
    "rpc-username": "dave13",
    "rpc-whitelist": "127.0.0.1",
    "rpc-whitelist-enabled": false

I had a hard time looking for settings.json, I thought it doesn't exist on mine. I tried various directory addresses I found on google and still no luck, then I ran into a forum saying that it is a hidden file. enabled: "Show Hidden Files" on the View tab on the upper left corner of the File Manager
I used:

sudo find / -iname settings.json

Lesson learned:
Don't trust ipchicken.com to know your IP address. Use this:

ip addr show

if you are looking for a file use this(saves time)

sudo find / -iname "filename"

I tried to be detailed so that when others who are having the same problem can easily solve it. Thanks Head_on_a_Stick and twoion.

Head_on_a_Stick wrote:

After running the `iptables` command, what is the output of:

sudo iptables -nvL

I don't really know what this "Remote Transmission" app is, can you explain more please?

This is the output:

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
pkts bytes target       prot opt in      out      source                              destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
pkts bytes target       prot opt in      out      source                              destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
pkts bytes target       prot opt in      out      source                              destination

The Remote Transmission I am talking about is an app on my android phone. It works the same way as the web client, it lets me control my downloads and add new torrents to download.

I'm trying to set up the Remote Transmission app on my android phone.
After filling up the required fields such as username, password, port...
An error message was shown saying that the connection was refused.
I've read somewhere that this can be fixed by the port I specified(9091)
Can somebody teach me how to open the port. I'm new to this.
Thanks in advance

Hello, Head_on_a_Stick!

When I selecet Live Session nothing happens when I press e. But there's a not below that says Press <Tab> to edit options. I tried it but there's no line that starts with "linux"
Anyway, I found a solution through google image search, somebody had the same problem and fixed it with selecting the Install option and pressing <Tab> the editing the value of vga to "vga=769"

I have a different problem now, I have went past this problem and got stuck on failed step: Installing the system.

ScreenHello, I'm new to GNU/Linux.

This is my first time using this Linux and Crunchban is my first.
Please be patient, I am not familiar with the terms.
Here it goes. Yesterday, I downloaded #! to install it on my Asus Eee PC 2g Surf to give it a light OS.

I have an idea about Live Session and decided to try it.
I downloaded #! 32bit for Older Devices AND Unetbootin. (I decided to use unetbootin instead of Win32DiskImager because I've read that it corrupts your flashdrive and it did corrupt one of my flashdrive, and the instructions on using unetbootin is easier to follow.)
Then I plugged it in my 2g surf, booted the USB flashdrive then the #! screen appeared.
I select Live Session first to give it a try the reboot my device and select INSTALL, it froze for a minute then white graphics that looks like "mini screens appeared" it went on like that even after I leave it for 2 hours.
I will attach a picture of how it looks like.
I haven't found a solution yet. Please help.

Hello guys from different timezones!

I'm dave13, new to GNU/Linux and new to Crunchbang.
I don't have great amount of info regarding #!.
Actually this is the 1st time I'm using a Linux distribution and #! is my 1st.
Hopefully I will learn quickly on how to do stuff in #! like installing/unsinstalling and customization. I heard you can do almost anything using GNU/Linux
(I've been using windows for the rest of my life before this)
I'm not a programmer or an IT guy, I studied a completely different field. So I may have to look for Linux for Dummies.

I'm looking forward to a great experince using #!.
Device I'm using is Asus Eee PC 2g Surf

Have a nice day! smile
