#1 Re: News & Announcements » The end. » 2015-02-06 20:31:29

I just want to express my gratitude to @corenominal and the awesome community that still keeps it up over here. It has been a pleasure, as I reflect now, for the last 5 years to be a (albeit minor) part of it all. I learned a lot about Linux and scripting from my experience with #! and I remain deeply in love with the minimalist aesthetics smile Cheers!

^ Thanks. So Wheezy/Waldorf will remain at 3.2.0 until patched after release (?). Or would it never get patched if it is considered "stable" (or frozen now)?

Yeah, its gonna stay at 3.2 with security patches backported and all smile

#3 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » Thoughts on the death of hacktivist Aaron Swartz » 2013-01-15 13:44:46

IntoCB, I can't really see you aim with that topic and you do, indeed, seem to contradict yourself with your pseudo-philosophical ramblings. Comparing somebody's choice to do what he did, whatever his psychological state was, to your vulgar nonsense about wining and who should fight whatever battles. I am sorry for not toning it down enough, as far as I can see so far the topic was discussed in relatively polite manner given its very provocative nature, but I guess I am just not evolved enough for that.

#4 Re: Feedback & Suggestions » Similar to CrunchBang? » 2013-01-10 21:57:00

Archbang is an attempt at recreating something like #! with Arch Linux base, but sadly the developers had their sense of aesthetics surgically removed. smile

#5 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » Adobe gives away CS2 for free? » 2013-01-08 09:42:05

It turns out it is not that legal to do that, apparently it wasnt Adobe's idea to give it away for free smile

#6 Re: WM/DE Talk » enlightenment e17 » 2013-01-04 14:36:12

I just gave Bodhi 2.2 a try and I have to say, I like the whole idea and now with the stable (not quite) 1.0 version, the whole e17 environment seems less ugly, tho I had some showstoppers which ruined my live session.

#7 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » What is the weather like where you are? » 2012-12-12 16:43:37

That's what I hate about Scotland, you just get the same damn weather with slightly lower temperatures and that north sea breeze that makes you regret leaving you nice Balkan (as in the mountain range) hometown for the cold wild northwestern Europe big_smile

#8 Re: Tips, Tricks & Scripts » Tips for privacy and security » 2012-12-10 15:36:22

It is generally a good idea to take whatever anyone says with a pinch of salt, state and economic agendas are quite dominant in mass media.

Possibly true, but have in mind RT stands for Russia Today and yeah smile

I'd say I want a nexus or one of those arm-based chromebooks, but I guess I'll have to buy it myself big_smile

#12 Re: CrunchBang Talk » [Solved] Google » 2012-11-19 18:29:40

They're rolling the new ui kinda sporadically, I have had it on several system/browser combo-s and I hope I don't get it soon on my statler install or windows 7 smile

#13 Re: Artwork & Screenshots » November 2012 Screenshot Thread » 2012-11-18 19:55:21

Statler with backports, e.g.  nothing to see, move on smile

Apparently you'd need libnotify-bin as well smile I should probably [Solved] the thread.

Heya guys, I am using the backports version of Statler and I cannot figure out how to use the notifications system, as apparently there is no "notify-send". I have looked at cb-fortune script for clues, but it is a python script, whereas I wanted to have notifications for a simple bash script. Any ideas how to do that?

#17 Re: Tips, Tricks & Scripts » Conky v1.9 Thread » 2012-11-16 16:42:55

Heya guys,  I had this idea to have conky showing up on demand (via keyboard shortcut). I guess it should by scripted to run conky if its not running and close it, if it is and should probably be easy enough with if/then, but I never really got around how to do that in bash. Can somebody help me with that?

Edit: Crazy enough, I found such script on the ubuntu forums big_smile
It's quite simple:

sh -c 'if pgrep conky; then pkill conky; else conky; fi'

Is it just showing links for putlocker/sockshare?

#19 Re: Help & Support (Testing/Unstable) » The One Thing Stopping My GF Installing Waldorf: 4OD Don't Work! » 2012-11-05 16:32:10

I haven't watched 4od in a wee while, but it was working just fine with Chrome on statler. And by just fine, I mean just as miserable as it is under Windows. smile

Just want to say that I found something better.
Google Play + Google Music Manager. Sync, more storage space and streamable from the browser/Android/whatever without paying, unlike U1. Sorry for those who strictly wanted U1 and found this topic by search or something.

Eventually I just sucked it up and re-ripped/downloaded my music and started using Google Play.
go to -> (sign in if you aren't already), click Upload Music at the top-right corner,  and then click Download Music Manager. For images I will stick to Dropbox.

Two sync services, yeah, but still better than dealing with Ubuntu One. It was starting to corrupt files on my hard drive (sometimes deleting them) and then corrupting them on the server by naming them like .01-songname-mp38934674 making the file useless. hmm

Anyways, just figured I would move on.

It's a US-only solution, mate smile

#21 Re: CrunchBang Talk » Finding unused or unnecessary packages? » 2012-10-15 11:29:18

@machinebacon  hate deborphan's ncurses ui, or even the ugly gtk one, I use apt:
First I list the orphaned packages with

deborphan --guess-data

and then to remove those poor orphans I use:

apt-get purge $(deborphan --guess-data)

First of all, I'm using Waldorf but replaced Openbox with Xfce.  Pardon my ignorance if these themes were actually online somewhere and I just wasn't looking in the right place, but I always liked the default look of Statler but had been missing it.  Therefore, I took matters into my own hands and re-created Statler's default GTK and icon themes, and this is also updated to work with GTK3 apps, too.

Not only that, but I have also made these themes available for download at  Also, if you would like the wallpaper, I found it at … _52752.jpg.  Enjoy! smile

Anyway, I don't think the passport issue has got much to do with the EU, it's all about the Schengen Agreement ( Although maybe if the UK had national identity cards than EU-wide travel without a passport would be possible.

For example, a French person with a French ID card can travel to England without their passport.

The Schengen Agreement is about going to another country without necessary ID checks, that is the point - about the ID cards, I regularly travel from Bulgaria (Non-Schengen) to UK (~Non-Schengen) with ID card only smile

#25 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » UK Passport Question.. » 2012-10-03 11:50:20

That is a ridiculous reason to switch sides big_smile I just checked and back home in Bulgaria you can get it for ~18 euros in 30 days or for ~90 you can get it in 8 hours smile Come join the cheap side big_smile
