@ragamatrix
Many thankz, dude! Recently I found a script on the internet by accident that seemed to solve my "problem".

(Link: https://github.com/Cloudef/dotFiles/blo … /db.conky)

But in the end this script was doing the same thing (calling DeaDBeeF multiple times per second sad ).

I'm going to study this one!

The LUA scripts are cool but... Apparently you can't put the gif above another image. sad

I mean, if you put ${image 1}${image 2} the image 2 will be displayed above the image 1, but with ${image 1}${lua gif} or ${lua gif}${image 1} the gif will be always under the image 1. O_o

Thankz, Sector11!

I saw this Space Invader thing in some dzen2 bars while digging stuff on deviantART. I would like to cite other alternatives I tested:

http://www.dafont.com/unown-gb.font
My favorite after the Pixel Invaders font.

http://www.dafont.com/04b-21.font
This one contains pacman + a ghost (or Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde if you color them lol) and PlayStation buttons.

http://www.dafont.com/pixel-dingbats-7.font
I saw this on deviantART too, ppl use the dice. smile

About the xftont... Well, it's weird. Even not using xftont, all my fonts are ignored without this thing. Truth be told, this thing is in my conky files for years. (Since my Puppy Linux times?)

Sector11 wrote:

I had, until I just tested it, no idea that:

  • ${font PF Tempesta Five Condensed-6}

  • ${font PF Tempesta Five Condensed-12}

would change the font size  cool Thank you.

Still need the : for some things though:

  1. doesn't work

    1. ${font monofur-12-bold-italic}

  2. do work

    1. ${font monofur-12:bold:italic} and

    2. ${font monofur:size=12:bold:italic}

I kind of found out by accident. Also, I mentioned above a font called "Pixel Dingbats-7". My solution to use that font in my conky was... Change the name to "Pixel DingbatsSEVEN", LOL!

And I think you're right about the fonts...

For example, I was using both PF Tempesta Five Condensed and Starbound JP Misaki mainly cuz Misaki supports Japanese characters, but lacks some essential stuff like "°". Tried lazily copy and paste the "°" from Tempesta Five into Misaki font, but just isn't the same thing...

Oh, well. Checking the Crinos512's stuff right now. big_smile

Finally, I'm not so ashamed of my work and I would like to present... My still not finished but OKAY Conky! big_smile

Firstly, my main goal from the beginning was to try to put everything important to me in a single line, that way I could run apps maxed (without window decoration) and keep me informed. Many things have been added and removed multiple times...

I also tried adding videogame elements (like hearts in place of a plain battery bar), but I wasn't satisfied with the vague info they provided and, well, this was the result I achieved so far:

PVfww32l.png

From left to right:

  • Fancy icon (that changes if day or night) followed by a random game phrase using fortune >> /tmp/fortune OR DeaDBeeF output if running (also with icons if playing something or not);

  • Shortened battery watts value;

  • Battery discharge/charge time using ibam (yellow when charging, gray when discharging, blinking red when too low and green when fully charged);

  • CPU and RAM usage (with colors variations from yellow to red if high);

  • Workspace indicator with Space Invaders;

  • CPU and HDD temperature (actually FAKE since I'm using a VM);

  • Local IP, download speed and upload speed if using eth0. Signal strength is shown in the local IP place if using wlan0. Nothing displayed if not connected;

  • Volume bar with color and icon variant if mute;

  • The last line contains notifications on whether the battery is too low or fully charged. Also, if the battery is too low the Metal Gear Solid alert sound is played and- When full, the Sonic (when getting a ring) sound.

Below a fancy and lazy gif with some of the variations mentioned...

ckpH6LV.gif

Necessary stuff (I guess):

  • Apps: fortune and ibam;

  • Fonts (most can be found on dafont.com): BM Stamp, Pixel Invaders, PF Tempesta Five Condensed, Visitor TT2 BRK and Starbound JP Misaki;

  • My awesome and highly detailed bar;

  • Cool sounds.

In "vanilla" tint2 it is not possible.

However I maintain a patched version of tint2 at https://gitlab.com/o9000/tint2-mods2 which supports that. You  need to add "E" to panel_items and the following config options:

execp_centered = 1
execp_command = echo "hello world"
execp_interval = 5
execp_font = Liberation Mono 8
execp_font_color = #ffffff 100
execp_background_id = 0

This feature might be merged in tint2 at some point, but probably not in the next release.

Wow, this is awesome! big_smile

I replaced many applets by a single conky cuz each of them were consuming like 10 MB RAM, while in the conky such additions were practically nothing.

I would love to tune up my tint2 that way...

Almost certainly not, there would be no use for deadbeef to report things like that to the user even if it uses them internally.

You could use cut to limit the length of the title returned by deadbeef so it does not run over the rest of your conky though.

I see... I was trying to store the info in a temporary file. That way I could easily simulate the scroll effect. In fact, it would be more dynamic! big_smile

Anyway, bad idea. (Again the Japanese characters. mad)

UPDATE: I'm so dumb...! I only realized after using cut that I was using the output length limit thing wrongly. Still, DeaDBeeF seems to crash randomly. (Japanese characters again?! HOLY...)

Oh, I also tried to create a simple bash script like, if length is >= 35 use scroll, but ${scroll} can't be parsed sooo... Adopting cut for now. neutral

Thankz, arclance. I have a bunch of ideas to test in the next days, but cut will be my base. big_smile

No there is no easy way to do it since scroll is broken with mulitbyte characters (like Japanese) so you would have do it with a Lua script instead.
You can't change the update rate for the scroll without making "update_interval" shorter because that controls how often conky updates what is displayed.

Gosh, that's bad. My knowledge in LUA is almost zero and I will not ask someone to do it for me.

Errr... Could you tell me if there is a way to count the characters in DeaDBeeF (without stop the playback)? I think I can find some workaround to the scroll thing starting from it. 8)

Yesterday I added something new. When no music is being played, weather infos are displayed. Like, if seconds are <= 12 show weather conditidion, else, if seconds are <= 24 show temperature, else, if seconds are <= 36 show umidity and so on... (Yeah, this was the awkward solution I found. Guys, guys! I have a little problem with Conky + DeaDBeeF.

It's fine with short track titles, but terrible with long titles. sad

abzVO9z.png

YTG9lcK.png

I was trying to put a limit on the DeaDBeeF output size, like, if the title + artist has 35 characters or more this should be scrolled.

${if_match ${texeci 5 expr length "`deadbeef --nowplaying %t - %a | head -n 1`"}" >= 35}${scroll 35 1 ${execi 5 deadbeef --nowplaying "%t - %a"}}${else}${execi 5 deadbeef --nowplaying "%t - %a"${endif}

But this isn't working cuz DeaDBeeF keeps stopping the playback, and even if it was working Japanese characters blink while scrolling.

My question is: Is there any simple way to do both things work? (It would be nice if the scrolling was faster without having to change the update_interval to something like 0.2 too. roll )

As a cheap tip, I use my Conky bar conf as signals sender too.

For example, when the battery level is too low I hear dat Metal Gear Solid alert sound. It's funny how I always get scared and then laugh... But works, indeed. D:

I also thought about implement other sounds like for startup and logout, but I'm trying to follow the philosophy of "keep it simple" so...

Hello, guys!

I have a script to create monthly backups with anacron. They're compressed with gzip and encrypted with gpg, like this:

tar cPzfv - $DIRS | gpg --encrypt --recipient 00000000 > $BACKUP

The problem is... I was testing this with files from a certain game that will be released for Linux (thinking about the effectiveness of this script) and the result was terrible! 48MB from gzip against 18MB from 7zip...

So, I want to replace gzip by 7zip or use both together to keep owner/groups more or less like this:

tar cf - $DIRS | 7za a -si $BACKUP

Buuut... How can I pipe gpg with tar like before + 7zip?

Sector11 and syntaxerror. I... I DID IT!

I went to sleep thinking about the idea of creating a "table" with the rem outputs, but I'm just TERRIBLE with awk and sed so I thought it was impossible for me alone. But after much googling I found a ridiculously simple solution!

1. Create output files with the proper ${goto} in bash;

rem -g | sed -e '1d;2d' >> /tmp/rem0
rem -g $(date +%Y/%m/%d -d "+1 days") | sed 's/^/${goto 160}/' | sed -e '1d;2d' >> /tmp/rem1
[...]

2. Merge the outputs;

paste /tmp/rem0 /tmp/rem1 [...] >> ~/.conky/rem_table

3. And finally print the table on Conky!

The code is even shorter and clean than before! I feel really stupid, but at the same time victorious... LOL.

Thaaankz, guys. big_smile

PS: The actual .reminders file is much larger so a horizontal conf wouldn't suit, also I forgot to put one more day. LOL! Anyway... It's fixed now.  smile

Guys, guys. I'm trying to create a simple Conky that appears when I click on the date (located in my tint2 bar). This should show multiple reminders separated by columns, but I can't think of a way to vertically align the reminders! 8.(

opXVvpAs.png

${voffset} will not work, because the output of each reminder varies in height... I need an absolute value.

I've thought about some "insane" solutions like to join all outputs in a text file or even use LUA, but I'm not so skilled.

What I'm REALLY trying to avoid is having to create 7 conkys, one for each day... I believe this is unnecessary. (And c'mon... 7?!)
