Hi all
I signed up into the new google 2 step sign in system. The problem is that I can't sign in at all now and have no idea how to get hold of google, Does anyony know how to do this ? By the way if you haven't signed up for the 2 step system yet don't. It seems to require a new sixfigure password everytime that you try to sing in. They send to you via your email address which you can't sign into anyway so as I am you will be locked out of your email account
Hi Doc,
Just been looking at your how to but not sure if I am reading it correctly. I assume that this is a way of getting grub to put things in the order that you want them to appear in the grub menu screen that you you see when it first boots up. If that is the case my custom_40 is empty. Does that mean if I copy your code
menuentry "Aptosid, with Linux 2.6.39-3.slh.1-aptosid-686 (on /dev/sda3)"
and change the name to
menuentry "Crunchbang, with Linux (latest version testing) (on /dev/sdb1)"
it will work for me
Hi All
I keep getting the following error message when trying to do a update, dist- upgrade, tried searching but am not able to find a solution.
E: GPG error: http://www.deb.multimedia.org sid InRelease: Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NODATA' (does the network require authentication?)
I am running SID at the moment. #! testing seems to be ok though so no idea why this is happening
Any help please
OOP's Just noticed Title incorrect sorry ]:D

/usr/sbin/grub-probe: warning: Couldn't find physical volume `pv0'. Some modules may be missing from core image..
It doesn't stop anything working as far as I can tell, just wondered what it is all about. I followed el-k's install of lvm and have never created pv0, 1 or 2 so no idea why the warning appears. can someone tell me please ?
Hi Anakinholland,
Thanks for the reply. I'll give pastebin a try sometime
Hi Anakinholland,

I looked at your link to pastbin but have no idea how to link pastebin back to this entry at the moment so have use code brackets instead. spent ages looking for the start an log ends but got there in the end, but as to what I am seeing it means nothing to me as yet
Hi wuxmedia
Thanks for the explanation. that helps out a bit, the rest will have to wait for someone else to say why
Hi Folks
Just a querry as it doesn't seem to cause any problems.
A lot of time when I do an update && dist-upgrade I see the following
No chroot environment found. Starting normal installation
Could you please tell me what it is on about and do I need to create a chroot environment ?
Hi xaos52,
Once again many thank to the good doctor. Problem solved and printed out for future reference just incase it goes belly up agian.
Thanks Doc solved again thank to you. Very much apopreciated of your time and effort required for the responce. In my case it was option 3 for openbox but that is by the way. Again thanks
Hi annoyingbeggar
Thanks for taking the time out to reply, much appreciated
I was on slim but as it would only go as far as the blue logo screen I thought the same as you and got rid of slim and installed lightdm but get just the same result.
Hi Folks
The other day I did an update, dist-upgrade on both testing and sid. The problem is that testing lets me sign on then goes to a blue screen with the debian sign on it and nothing else, it just sits there with the mouse pointer on it which works but I can't do anything else. SID works just fine, I am on it now, any ideas as to why and how to fix of it please ? I have tried machinebacon's solution of adding " video=lxfb:1440*900-32@60 " to the end of the grub line suggested with no luck, but I don't think that is the problem anyway as the graphics appear to work, something else is missing and I have no idea what it is
Thanks in advance
Hi All,
I should have said that it was pointed out to me by someone else, unfortunalty I can't remember who. Sorry
Hi thorbs,
I had that problem and solved it by using an older version of flash player ( flash player 10.3.183.50 ). that version works ok for me. Give it a try, It may work for you. Good Luck
Hi Folks

@ ivanovnegro. Ran that command but have no idea if it ate anything it shoud not have done as yet.
Thanks to one and all I am now back on openbox which I like and manage to get around best of all
Hi All
Sorry about the odd title but the thing is I have no idea which it is. I have just reintall SID and installed SMXI, after I caused myself yet anothe problem trying something out. and it has put a front end on it that I do not like at all. It comes up with an activities button in the top left when clicked upon you get two options windows or applications and thereafter a whole load of launch icons. I like the straight forward crunchbang charcoal display which when you right click the mouse you get a dropdown menu. Can you please tell me how to get back to the one I like and get rid of the other one, also what it is called so I don't end up on it again ? Thanks in advance
Hi ew
Thanks again. Everything is working now. Don't know if its something I have done or whether its a natural correction by SID, the boffins that is, probably by SID though even though I have tried all sorts of thing anyway all's OK now
Hi ew
Sorry for mthe long delay in answering your post but we have been away for the weekend.
Not to worry the printer problem will eventually be sorted out but rest seem to wotk ok now and again thanks for you valued help
Hi ew,
Thanks for the reply and links. I did as you said in your post downloaded extracted and moved to /usr/share/themes and it is there.
it let me add a printer, in my case epson DX5000, ok and my internet connection icon has apperaed, synaptic is working now, I think, any way it shows itself but the printer won't print I have logged in and out about 4 times now but still with no luck. I have even installed the latest driver from epson but even that doesn't appear to work and the configure printers only show a 4850 which has worked in the past but not now unfortunatly. Any other ideas please ?
Hi All,
Both of the above items are not working. That is to say they both ask for my password and then just vanish of the screen doing nothing. I have been trying to add my printer for some time now and even tried localhost:631 and that won't let me do anyting either. Are the two problems related in anyway and do I need to start two different threads to get a solution ? I am trying to do this in SID. All works well in testing.
Hi
As you can see it is now solved. The problem, yes you guessed, was me, I had the wrong info in my sources list to start with. I had missed of the important deb at the start of multimedia. Once corrected all I had to do was sort ou the key. all is now ok.
Thanks to all
Thanks for that wuxmedia real helpfull
Hi Folks
I have done a lot or reading and searching for this error but have been unable to find an answer. The full error is as follows
W: GPG error: http://www.multimedia.org sid InRelease: Could not execute 'gpgv' to verify signature (is gpgv installed?)
gpgv is installed
This is appearing in SID and I have no idea why or how to fix it.
Any help please ?
Thanks in advance
Hi wuxmedia,
Thanks for the post and no need for the appoligy. Anyway I have just finished my first go with thunderbird having got it set up with your help and it seems quite nifty at least to me a complete novice with these things, a lot to learn but I will get there in the end with any luck . I am assuming that it will kick in automatically when I sign into googlemail anyway I will soon find out as I am about to try it shortly. once again thanks for all your input and assistance
Hi Folks. Thanks for the posts. Will have a look when I get home tonight. On phone at the moment.
Hi Folks,
@ wuxmedia,
Been checking out thunderbirds and have finally got it to where it is suggested that it should be, in opt, and unziped it. I have got it to run but it wants me to set up an account and gives me three options none of which I particullary want as i am only interested in emails and have no idea about news blogs and somethiong else so probably won't take it any futher but thanks for the info anyway
@ KrunchTime
Had a look at your suggestion and was baffled by the choices and didn't understand them so that will not be going any futher either, too complicated fo me for me to setup asd I* have no idea about pop3 imac , i think, or all the others as I just use programs that run and have no complicated setup's Thanks anyway nfor the suggestion
Once again thanks for all your input I enjoyed checking them out even if I dont go with any of them
