what version on an Asus Eee 1215?

Hi everybody,

what #! version is best on an Asus Eee PC 1215?

It has dual boot an I'd like to replace the ASUS operating System with #!

So which #! version is best for this?

if openbox vs xfce is your question then its basically what you like best, i for one tried them both live, and i chose openbox because i liked the menu look better

You should also take in consider that one version is not specifically lighter than the other - both are lightweight systems. Xfce tends to take a little more than Openbox though, but the difference isn't noticeable.

well - of course the open - box-version. I have it installed on an realy old toshiba satellite and it works fine, even after the eol-upgrade.

What must be cleared: better the i386 or the higher x86 - version.
-
But what seems to be the most critical point:
- after browsing through the wiki - there is only a description that kills the pre-installed windows stuff. I think it suits me more to replace the the asus-system with #! so that there is still the dual-boot possible.

May that work?

As far as I know it uses an N550 Atom, which is 64bit capable, but I don't see a reason for that on a netbook (higher RAM and HDD consumption).

You should also go for the more recent version, since netbooks use modern technology, which is often not covered by the outdated 9.04 Ubuntu. So I recommend going for Statler.

well
i choosed the statler openbox i686 then.  But how to set up the ethernet properly? The Atheros AR 8152 ndis 6.20 is not shown in the driver list. Can i continue setup without etherent and then (re)configure the the etherent after finishing the installation?

or ist there any driver for it that can be loaded during the installation?

ok,

the atheros-question is solved. LAN works all right. Live-testing therfore works and makes fun.

Still tricky seems the wireless broadcom adapter. During the installation, the broadcom card is not recognized - the broadcom - drivers in the installation-iso do not work.

So what? Either download it somewhere:  [WHERE?]  and use it during the installation of statler or is this dirver bcm4329 listed in any repository?

any suggestions?
