[solved]tint2 panel options and [unsolved]japanese input

So, I have two things I can't seem to figure out.  I'm using the current stable release of CrunchBang.

I want my tint2 panel to be behind maximized windows...I've tried both the panel_layer and autohide methods, and neither seem to work.  I know the tint2 panel on Statler does this with no problem...How can I just upgrade to that version of tint2?

Secondly, I'm trying to get Japanese input to work with scim-anthy...I've gotten it so I can use Japanese input in leafpad and file names using the 'encoding method' (or whatever it's called) option offered by those, but I can't get it to just work universally or with anything that doesn't have those options such as Firefox...ctrl+space, ctrl+shift, etc does nothing.  I followed the instructions on the CrunchBang wiki.

The scim/anthy setup on Ubuntu and Debian works pretty well last I tried.  These two articles look promising.  http://lorenzod8n.wordpress.com/2008/01 … on-debian/

Pack em in snow!

Try using one of the tint2 deb files from here (pick the Karmic or Lucid package):

Now it's not starting on start-up and there's no system tray?

Re: [solved]tint2 panel options and [unsolved]japanese input

Open a terminal and run these commands:

killall -9 tint2
tint2

If tint2 does not start, post the output text (if any).

Alright, it starts...But the system tray still doesn't show up.  Does it use different parameters for the system tray in the config file than the other version?

Re: [solved]tint2 panel options and [unsolved]japanese input

If you kill and restart tint2, certain program icons that were previously in your systray will no longer be there (I think parcellite is an example). Just restart those applications and they should show in the tray again.

I think it was a problem with the Karmic version, because I decided to try the Lucid problem and downloaded tint2conf with it, and my problem's solved.

I still haven't figured out the scim-anthy problem, though.

Re: [solved]tint2 panel options and [unsolved]japanese input

Which instructions did you follow on the wiki? (Could you post a link to the page?)
Japanese input's working fine here on Crunchbang 9.04.01
Maybe you're missing a necessary package or two.
