I want to use Sound Juicer to rip some of my audio CDs, but it does not seem to detect that a CD is in the drive. I can use VLC to play CDs in the drive. Any suggestions on how to "tell" Sound Juicer the CD is there?

Using #! 9 I suppose? I would first trying reinstalling it and making sure your system is up to date.
You can try starting Sound-Juicer with this code (assuming you have one CD/DVD-ROM).
sound-juicer -d /dev/hdaIf you have more than one CD/DVD-ROM, check which one it is by going to VLC (you said it'd play from there) "Media" -> "Open Disc" -> "Disc Device" and it should say it there.
If all else fails, you can try cdparanoia.
I did all this on #! Statler, so I am assuming this will work on #! 9.

I have not the faintest of what can be wrong with Sound Juicer, but you can always read this:

Good luck!
Time to move on!#

Thank you, guys. I'll try these avenues.
I did succeed in using Synaptic to download and install ABCDE and Grip, so at least I can rip while I troubleshoot Sound Juicer.

... or try rubyripper instead?
