Hi guys! I'm trying out this distro and it's awesome!
I installed the lite one and I noted that when I right click to open the main menu I don't have the internet, graphics, office and so on menus like in ubuntu and similar distros. I also installed abiword to try but nothing came out in the menu as well.
I know that I could set the menus myself, but it would be a long rather boring work!
Is there any setup or config to make the menus appear? I saw many screenshots with them in.
Thanks in advnace!

You can use the Debian menu:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/configu … ating_menu
Otherwise you might just have to edit the menu manually.
As for the screenshots, are you sure it was Openbox and not Xfce?

Now, another little problem, which I had encountered when I used for the first time the debian menu in an e17 desktop: the menu is ok, but when I install a new app, that's not automatically added to the menu.
I installed abiword an emdpathy, but these apps are not showed.
Any solution?

edit the menu manually, it's not hard and it's fun

So? No solutions indeed? That's very strange...
You were answered in posts #2 and #5. CrunchBang (intentionally) does not have an auto-updating menu, but you can install the Debian menu if you like.

If it doesn't autoupdate, try to reload the openbox conf files or use the restart openbox feature. It's in your menu. You can do this after reinstalling software, it's not asked too much, isn't it?

Definitely not! The restart is not the same as the reconfigure option right? How to update the openbox conf files?
Btw, I'm thinking that when you reboot the system, that's as if you have restarted openbox right? Well then, the menu doesn't update when I restart the pc... Does restarting the pc also updates the ob conf files?

Something must be broken then. Did you install the menu app? What does menu do when you run it

Yes I installed it (after setting up the debian menu though). When I launch the ob menu, it simply appears showing the default crunchbang submenus and the debian submenu in the place I put it...

I just tested it. Installed the menu like told in the guide above. Used the openbox reconfigure switch in the menu. Debian menu was there. Installed pcmanfm using apt-get. pcmanfm wasn't there. Used the reconfigure switch in the menu again and there it was: Debian -> Applications -> File Management -> PCManFM.
Is the debian menu where you put it?
Ok this isn't effective. Please use http://crunchbanglinux.org/pastebin/ and show us your menu.xml, your rc.xml and your /var/lib/openbox/debian-menu.xml. Would be nice to have one pastebin entry for each file
The permissions for the /var/lib/openbox/debian-menu.xml should be -rw-r--r-- and be owned by root.
"menu" is installed by default, so nevermind.

Btw: I will paste the files cause I'd like to solve this problem (also for other users), but I'm thinking that in the future I could simply use gnome-do to summon new apps, without using the menu.

Yes, I also use gnome-do, but it pulls a bunch of gnome and mono dependancies... wich might be undesirable

Alt+F3 is way cooler than Gnome-Doo in my opinion.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm not sure you would see it that way if you knew that you can type a name from your pidgin buddylist and it opens a chat window... it's one piece of bloat I accept

Hey, I'm on a rush, but I have an update: retried the debian menu and this time everything works: don't know what was the issue. But abiword is not added. Later I'll post the configs!
