[Resolved] WEP, WPA on TRENDNET APB510

Hi Guys -

Having a strange problem with Crunchbang linux 8.10.2 - I can't connect to my wireless network using WEP or WPA authorization. I have tried hexademical key, ASCII key - no luck. The only way I could connect - was without authorization.

Also I have tried to install wicd - install went fine, but again - authorization wasn't passed.

Please note that my Windows XP connect fine with any tested type of authorization. Also, I've tried with Ubuntu 8.04. Also no problem. Also I've tried my Nokia E51 (with Wi-fi), wep, wpa - works also fine.

Could you please advise me what to do - cause I like the Crunchbang look and feel very much!

Hello Wizionus smile

Sorry to read you have been having trouble with your wireless. Another user experienced the same thing and we spent a good few hours trying to diagnose the problem. Hopefully the fix should be fairly easy, there are a couple of installed packages which are the cause of the problem, simply remove the packages and reboot to fix. Enter the following terminal command:

sudo apt-get remove linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic linux-backports-modules-2.6.27-9-generic

Hope this helps and sorry for the inconvenience.

P.S. Welcome to the forums! smile

Thank you, corenominal

I will try later today. Could you please advise what to do in terms of reboot in the Live CD. I mean that to try this hack I will need to install the system... but I would like to check it before installation - on the live cd. Is reboot so necessary?

And thank your very much for so warm greetings!

Hello Wizionus smile

I am not entirely sure a reboot is needed, try removing the packages and seeing what happens. Another user in another thread reported that the fix worked on the LiveCD.

Working great now and after testing the fix from the livecd, I went ahead and installed it.

Please let us know how you get on, it would be good to confirm the step needed to get this working on the LiveCD. smile
