I verified that nitrogen is installed and image files are in /images/wallpapers/
I updated nitrogen - didn't work
I uninstalled nitrogen, logged out, logged in, reinstalled nitrogen, - didn't work
everytime I try to go through the menu, it doesn't work
help please.
I love #!. it is fast.
I don't want to go back to gnome b/c I'm too ignorant to make #! work.

have you tried launching it from the terminal, does that give you any error messages ?
nitrogen ~/images/wallpapershould do it

well according to the internet gio is part of a gnome lib, other issues seem to be linked to configs so i would try backing up and removing the config files (either ~/.nitrogen or ~/.config/nitrogen i would have thought)

I had the same problem chaka.
Create a folder for your wallpaper in your home directory, edit the menu and set the path to that instead and that should solve the problem, that worked for me and had no trouble with nitrogen since.

Shaam,
Thanks for your help.
It didn't work.
I copied the wallpapers folder to the home directory.
I edited OBmenu to redirect to that location. nitrogen ~/home/user/wallpapers/
saved menu
right click on desktop -> preferences -> choose wallpaper => nothing happens

Benji,
sudo apt-get --purge remove nitrogen
sudo apt-get install nitrogen
nitrogen
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Gio::Error'
Aborted
Did I do that right?

I am having a similar problem. Nitrogen will open, but there are no wallpapers in it to choose from ... the window is blank. I have tried all of the suggestions so far, to no avail. I will keep looking for a fix.

@Morley - make sure you point Nitrogen to a folder that actually has images.
nitrogen /some/folder/with/imagesOffline
Morley,
I will keep looking as well.
I can use the file manager to set the desktop, but it puts folders on it as well (very cluttered - not #!like).
I hope there is a solution to fixing nitrogen.
I don't want to use gnome - it's slow.
Is there a difference between thunar and pcman - can one of them control desktop wallpaper without putting folders on the desktop?
Thanks, anonymous, I confirmed my folder as well.
Still not working.

You could use feh to set the background. If you have Thunar, you can use one of these for a custom action:
feh --bg-scale %f
feh --bg-center %fOr you could use this pipemenu for Openbox:

anonymous,
Typing in the file path after running nitrogen in the terminal did the trick! Thanks ... not sure why it stopped looking at the file, but it is working now. :-)

Thanks, anonymous.
$ nitrogen ~/home/usr/images/wallpapers/starcloud.jpg
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Gio::Error'
Aborted
still getting Gio error.
Installed feh. Picked a wallpaper and edited the OB autostart.sh.
Seems to get the job done, though not as easily as nitrogen.
The original problem remains - nitrogen stopped working.
Thanks, everyone.

@Morley, i had the same problem as you had, nothing showing up when opening nitrogen from the obmenu.
have you moved the wallpaper destination? i had, all i had to do was alter the obmenu command to reflect the new directory and i was good as gold.
resurrect a 2-year old thread? why not?
