alternative to lock screen that doesn't require a password?

Apologies if this is double posted, I'm pretty sure it didn't get posted though the first time I tried. Anyway, my cats like to step on my keyboard when I'm away so I usually lock screen. I made my password something REALLY hard to type though so sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 times to get the password. Can I just have an option to log back in by pressing a button? Is there an alternative to lock screen? I don't really care about other people getting into my computer, I only care about my cats stepping on the keyboard and deleting a file.

Sometimes I just switch to another tty screen with ctrl-alt-f3 or ctrl-alt-f4. Then switch back with ctrl-alt-f7. No one near my laptop knows anything about linux, so it works well. Just a quick key stroke to move between screens.
