[Solved] Problems with Screensaver - never "kicks in"...

Hi all!

(Re-) installed CB a few days ago (nothing wrong with my first install, I just needed to restore my netbook because of Windows issues) and I'm now in the process of setting it up with all the extra programs and goodies I want to add to make my Crunchbang environment as pleasant as possible.

I brought up the "Screensaver & Power Management" options to set up the Power options, nad while I was there I thought - "Let's look at the screensavers". I browsed through them all, found some interesting ones and finally decided on the "Skyrocket". I set the time for activating it to just a few minutes just because I wanted to see how it looked when it "kicked in", and waited.

And here is my problem:

After the specified amount time the screen starts to fade to black (a 2-3 second process) and I'm thinking "Here we go!". And then suddenly everything comes back again. No screensaver, no "rest", just the normal CB view.
- What went wrong? How do I identify the problem? Could there be some kind of process running that messes everything up?

Next question: (for when I get it all up and running)
Is there anywhere I can adjust the settings for each screen saver module? I seem to remember a windows equivalence of the Skyrocket (for example) where I could set speed, amount of "rockets" and so on... but in CB I only seem to be able to choose which screen saver module I want, and that's it.

Any ideas? Where do I start looking (for a solution to my first question)?

Ohh.. BTW - I'm running an Asus 1000HE, with a "normal" (up to date) crunchbang install.
I also added fewt's eeepc utilities and the netbook dkms.

Is there a Preview button? Does it work?

BTW you could also try using xscreensaver instead of gnome screensaver:

xscreensaver at least does let you change settings for each screensaver.

Yes, the previews work without problem - I opened the preview on the first one and then clicked through the list with the buttons on top of the screen (in the preview mode).

That's where I'm thinking that there's something else causing the screen to "wake up" before the screen saver has a chance to start.
(Of course being the newbie I am this could be a totally "off" conclusion)

I'll try to look into xscreensaver to see how that works...

thanks,

Tried the xscreensaver this morning, and whatever the install did "behind the scene" it worked.
And as you said - I can now change the settings..

-Thanks a lot!
