Greetings from me

I've never been any good at these things, but here goes anyway.
I'm Isaac, sometimes known as Liam (short story that no one ever gets) and I'm in the south of the UK.
I've been a Linux user for a bit over 5 years now, starting out with Ubuntu - which personally, I think is a perfect way for new users to meet Linux. Since then I've tried Debian, Fedora, Slax, Linux Mint and Fluxbuntu, and now I'm coming to Crunchbang because Fedora left a bit of a sting, and Crunchbang uses Openbox - my current favourite window manager, when combined with the fbpanel or sometimes AWN. It's also based on Ubuntu, which having used the most, I still seem to gravitate back to no matter how many times I move away from it.

I'm not a fanatic about it, but I do try to help people find Linux, my younger brother uses Ubuntu itself, Dad uses Linux Mint, and Mum OpenSuSE, so the only Windows- in the house is Wine, and things still run thorugh it except for one PC running XP which gets little use.

Linux aside... I'm just a computer geek who keeps a quiet blog, tries to help out with computers, and gets told I'm a pest because I like rock music and weird games. But I'm weird, so it makes perfect sense to me.

I think that's about it really. Go ahead, ask me anything. I might even answer truthfully - even I have to keep some secrets, 'natch.

Welcome to the asylum, Isaac/Liam!  Anyone Who loves Rock is cool in my book, although part of that depends on Who you consider "Rock".

I think it's *awesome* your entire family uses Linux!  Converting your kin is quite a coup.

Gremnon

welcome to the forum.
So, going in details, you have to assimilate your mother with an ubuntu distro. Resistance is futile.

Just kidding.. Enjoy in CrunchBang!

Re: Greetings from me

I prefer Liam, because it used confuse the hell out of everyone at school, but Isaac's cool too.
Story behind it goes, that at the school there was a kid who could have been my twin, except we were completely unrelated. His name was Liam, mine was Isaac, so we gave each other our names as nicknames. Even our math teacher couldn't tell us apart. Fun times.

It wasn't easy converting the family though... Mum likes OpenSuSE because it works best for her. I did try to get her to use Ubuntu, but she chose it, I'm not gonna try and change her mind.

And rock... well, any rock, Metallica, some of Queen, Linkin Park (thanks to my unfortunatly now ex-girlfriend) and a few others I've found. I'm on the lookout for more, and people know it, so maybe for christmas.

Re: Greetings from me

I'm more of a "vaguely folkish alterna-rock" guy (eternally grateful to Matt Groening for that phrase) with a heavy bias toward acoustic rock, but I hope you picked up on The Who in my last comment. wink  Also prog rock & prog metal like Dream Theater & Symphony X.

I don't know if you get Adult Swim in the UK, but you might have recognized C. F. Offdensen in my avatar. roll

Re: Greetings from me

I think I remember seeing it on one of my various to-get lists I leave lying around. I'd compile them all into one list on the computer, except I can never find them when I want them.
I do find stuff I wasn't after though, like I once found some old MS DOS 5 floppies, a box of Windows 3.1 floppies and a Windows 95 upgrade box.
Rumor has it that somewhere in my room is a mysterious hidden relic called 'the floor'. No one who's ever gone looking for it has come back to tell of it though.
