I was given an old laptop HP Compaq Presario 2140 with an Athlon XP 2400+ , 128MB ram , 40gb hdd whose screen went dead on me , so i removed it. I don't know what kind of vga chipset it has , and i can't seem to find the specs anywhere. I also have an old 15" tft screen which just gathers dust on my closet.
I was thinking stuff to do with them...but more original than the stuff found by googling , 'cause i already have a file server/firewall/leech machine , a media center and a distro-hopping machine.

Any suggestions of what to do with them are welcome!!

maybe a digital picture frame/jukebox?
I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

home automation system? the starter kits aren't too expensive, and you could integrate climate control as well.

we got an old dead laptop running zenwalk, similar spec to yours, but only 90 odd meg of ram, its poor to be fair, but it handles mame quite well, booting into the full zen, it can browse, even boot gimp! but its as quick as a 3 legged horse.

A friend suggested yesterday to turn it into an arcade gaming station (MAME etc) ... I am thinking turning it into a full project and make a cabinet with controllers (arcade style)

I've wanted to build one for the longest time. The only expensive part would be the controls. If you end up building it post pictures please

You probably know what you're doing, but here's where I was going to get my controls from http://www.happcontrols.com/ and if you aren't going to just hack the controls into the keyboard this is what I would recommend http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html

well if you need more help don't be afraid to ask, I've been thinking about building one for a few years so I know a decent amount about wiring up the controls and stuff.
