hey crunchbangers:
i just installed 9.04 and i lost all sound.
i had hardy installed on this machine last week and sound worked splendidly. i think i wanna do this(https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-bugs/2005-September/004426.html), but it's from 2005 and i don't know if i should try it. i have the same setup as that poster, btw. what do you think?
i found this, seems to be the same problem, but no solution yet:
http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8039738
$ aplay -l
aplay: device_list:217: no soundcards found...
$ lspci -v
03:02.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio Controller (rev 01)
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 18
I/O ports at 7400 [size=32]
I/O ports at 7800 [size=128]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel modules: snd-ice1724
also, i think maybe i'll boot to a live ubuntu cd and see if sound works there... if it does i'll see what the setup is.

Looks like no driver is present, is that the built in sound device on your motherboard?
I have always used this thread in the past,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449
but it is pretty old now, and I am not sure if #! is using alsa or pulse.

i used the ubuntuforums thread, but i couldn't get it to work.
i stopped just short of compiling alsa because it used to work out of the box -- there's gotta be a way.

ubuntu bug report... but i think it's an upstream problem, to be honest. i'll see if i can file a bug report directly to alsa.
