Oh, hi there.

So I am on the hunt again for a nice distro to put on my machine.

Arch Linux has been my playground for a while, with a bit of Kubuntu and Linux Mint sprinkled in between on different machines.
I love Arch, but it is a lot of work. Recently I received my new laptop, a pretty much fully decked Thinkpad T440s that I use for work and University.
I put Mint 17 on it, as I needed it up and running fast (one lesson I learned: NEVER order directly from Lenovo. It is hell. I can elaborate if you want. But: It took over 9 weeks for my laptop to arrive). I really like it, but now I just want something simpler again.

So the questions begin: #! or Arch again?

I want great configurability but simple and quick setup. I don't want to play around for days to get back up and running (I've been down the gentoo rabbit hole...).

I like the rolling release style of Arch, but love me some stability...

I am undecided. So I decided to lurk here for a few days, read up on the distro, and get in touch with you peoples to see what's up.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome to crunchbang smile

If you want a more cutting-edge #! then Unstable/Testing may be more to your taste. There are several threads about upgrading the default Waldorf install - be aware of unwanted gnome dependencies being dragged in though, if you aren't careful.

Whichever you run, coffee and chat is still available to everyone big_smile

Re: Oh, hi there.

Hello hnker, welcome to #!
I also use Arch, but I find Debian Testing makes a nice alternative --- also rolling release, but a bit less cutting-edge and a bit more already setup for you...

Re: Oh, hi there.

I will definitely have a look at a #!/testing set-up. That sound sweet!

Thank you all for welcoming me, it does make a difference when nice people are there to help.

I can only offer mine as well. I tend to skim the new posts and will try to help where I can. Also, python I like and manage servers via puppet at work. If you have questions.
