I'm about to rid of my Mint partition, but I have one thing holding me back! In Mint, I could see a thumbnail of each video file in the file browser so I would know which video I want before I click it. Is there a way I can do that in pcmanfm?

Well even if pcmanfm can not make video thumbnails, you still can install thunar/dolphin/nautilus file manager.

Nautilus should be run as nautilus --no-desktop to prevent it from managing your desktop.

installed and ran nautilus --no-desktop like you said, still no previews. could it be mplayer or something that is showing the thumbnails?

For Nautilus to have video previews, I think you need to install totem-xine. Or try totem-gstreamer.

For Thunar, you need thunar-thumbnailers and ffmpegthumbnailer.

Just uninstall PCManFM and install Thunar. Then edit your menu (menu.xml) and shortcuts (rc.xml) to use Thunar and not PCManFM.

I just went ahead and deleted the pipe menu and added thunar to the openbox menu

No need to delete pipemenu, just edit and replace 'pcmanfm' with 'thunar'.

You'll need to:

sudo apt-get install zeroinstall-injector

for it to work though.
EDIT: and this
Just stick it in ~/lib or /usr/share/lib/
