Xamarin really doesn't do a great job of packaging the latest stuff up for the different distributions. I've found a decent tutorial on getting the latest Monodevelop installed on a Debian based system.
A user going by tpokorra has used an opensuse build system to provide the newest version.
http://software.opensuse.org/download/p … evelop-opt
I've successfully installed the latest version by following the Debian 7 instructions.
After installing the repository, you can use:
apt-get install monodevelop-optto install the application.
To run the application, you can use:
monodevelop-optin the terminal.
Let me know if you have any issues, or if this is a terribly incorrect way of going about this. I'll try to keep this updated.

Hey imprOt!
It was easyly installed and it works like a charm. Don`t know what problems you had earlier, because i never tried to install it before but i think this is a good way to install repositories and apps.
greetz -naik

I had issues with a previously installed version of monodevelop. I think there were dependency issues between the one in the current #! repo. I did an apt-get autoremove and everything seemed to work properly after that.

This method of installing still works, however it installed Monodevelop 5.0 ?!? Is there a way to install version 4, cuz I can't install F# for version 5, damnit!
Cheers,
Sam

Hey, it looks like it'll always try for the latest version of mono-develop... I'll see if i can find something that provides back-versions. I wish Xamarin would support the Linux community better.
