I'm a newbie to Linux. How do I run this build alongside Windows 7?

Install it in another partition, and let grub manage the boot process. Your windoze installation will be one of the boot options
Search the forums for how to dual boot with windows7 - there is a lot of info

I have to say, crunchbang was surprisingly one of the friendliest dual-booting process ever - I mean, it's not direct or anything but something about the process was clearer than some of the other graphical installers which only made me nervous about pressing next.
but im still a newbie too.

Re the actual dual boot config:
Don't get tempted to try configuring to use the Windows bootloader to manage dual booting, unless absolutely forced to by problems, it's perfectly doable, but decidedly non-trivial for a new user...
The good news is it's much less hassle than it used to be, much more reliable, and generally automatic.. just a case (usually) of accepting the defaults and letting the installer manage it.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed...
