SFML package in repository is out of date

Hey all,

So I develop applications using C++ and SFML, and Im currently trying to get all of my development working on crunchbang linux. So far I appear to have gotten the hang of compiling vanilla cpp & header files using g++. I also installed the SFMLdev package from the package repository, but it appears that the package being downloaded is in fact SFML 1.6, instead of SFML 2.1 which I need. Would it be possible to update the SFML package included with the repository to 2.1?

Ah, so what apt-get command command will I need to use? (Is accessing a package in a testing repo different from the usual one?)

Why testing repo though? The SFML website lists 2.1 as the latest stable version.

Re: SFML package in repository is out of date

First you need to familiarise yourself with how Debian repositories work - start here

The testing distribution contains packages that haven't been accepted into a stable release yet, but they are in the queue for that. The main advantage of using this distribution is that it has more recent versions of software.

So you could upgrade your installation to jessie/testing, or there are ways to just install the library versions you need (but that could lead to breakage...)

You could start with this thread: Debian testing & pinning
