Network - EeePC

I installed Crunch Bang (lite 32-bit) on a SDHC on my EeePC 1101HA. Then I need to get Internet access but the network-manager is crossed over.
I cept my Windows installation and there all works fine. I tried to manually configure both wired and wireless network but nothing works. What to do? I really like #!. I want a light OS and try to run as much as possible in RAM as the SDHC is slow.
As either wired or wireless work its tricky to install packages (as wicd for example)...

Please explain.

Is your wireless card turned on (blue LED is on)?

If so, run iwconfig and note which interface is active.
Run ifconfig to see if that interface has an IP address.
Run nm-applet to see which access points are available.

Then come back here and let us know how you are succeeding.

Re: Network - EeePC

Hmm. I have no experience with the EeePC 1101HA, but I know with my EEEPC 1000H that it'll take a restart to get Wi-Fi activated after deactivating it from the hotkeys.

Maybe turn Wi-Fi on using the hotkeys and restart?

Re: Network - EeePC

Could it be that not only 1005 HA and 1008 HA, but also 1101 HA have these atheros network controllers, which are not supported with crunchbang's current kernel?

To be sure, run, say, sudo iwconfig and see what it returns, if it says 'no wireless extensions' - the card is not supported. Than run lspci | grep Network, and if you see 'Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)', just follow points 2 and 5 of instruction provided here: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ion-guide/ and don't be scared - it's mostly double-clicking here and there and it should bring your wifi back to life. Don't know about fn keys, though.

Re: Network - EeePC

Ok, at last I had time to test this.
Wireless is on (blue light is on), but hotkeys dont work.
Then I tested some commands.

iwconfig
no wireless

ifconfig
lo Link encap: Local loopback
    inet addr: 127.0.0.1 ...

pan0 Link encap: Ethernet Hwaddr ...
         Inet addr:... scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
         ...

nm-applet
** (nm-applet:3972):WARNING **; <WARN> applet_dbus_manager_start_service(): Could not acquire the NetworkManagerUserSetting service as it is already taken.

Re: Network - EeePC

Try to install new kernel, it's piece of cake. See my previous post.
