Came over from an older version of Linux Mint to #!

Hello world,

Just a quick, kinda, introduction.  I have been currently using an older version of Linux Mint (ver 10 Julia which has not been supported for sometime now) on a laptop that's a few years old now.  So I decided to install a new version of Mint.  Then I figured since I am installing a new version why not try a different distribution.  I wanted something based on Debian (Ubuntu I am told is kinda based on Debian, thus so is Mint, kinda?) and I did think about installing LMDE, since it would be familiar.  But whats the fun in that!  Plus LMDE is based on the testing version of Debian, and I wanted something a little more stable since I am also learning Python ("hello world", see what I did there) and will use the laptop to start coding in Python.   Crunchbang's light weight and Openbox interface seems like a good fit.  Plus the logo is pretty cool, #!

Thanks,

Twix

Damo,

Since I am just starting out, I started using geany that came with Crunchbang.  Seems like a good text editor.  Though I have only used gedit befor this so I don't have much else to compare it to.  Would you recommend IDLE over geany for programming Python?

Geany is fine, and a good editor, but IDLE is specifically configured for python. It's lightweight and fast, and easy to use
