Ranger - How do I preview images?

Tried following this guide.

I didn't have a rc.conf file in ~/.config/ranger, so I did:

ranger --copy-config=all

then I added the following to ~/.config/ranger/rc.conf

set preview_images true

When i run ranger, it gives me

The option `preview_images' was not defined in the defaults!

Ranger still works, but I can't get it to preview images.

Re: Ranger - How do I preview images?

This appears to be a regression in the version of Ranger in Wheezy; you need the one from Testing or Sid to be able to preview images in true color.  Also, you need w3m and w3m-img.

EDIT:  ALSO also, some terminal emulators don't work with the w3m-img previews; Terminator is one of these.  Xterm works well enough though. cool

Re: Ranger - How do I preview images?

Yaay! Thx, it worked! I just got the latest package from their site.

Is it possible to achieve this without X? I can use fbi to view images in tty, but ranger can't preview images.
