Hello everybody.
I'm thinking about giving #! a try....
I still miss the good old Gnome2, and I'm looking for suitable replacements.
So far I tried Linux Mint 13 MATE, it works somewhat fine and looks almost like Gnome 2.
Yet I was wondering to what degree can #! with Openbox be customized to look, feel and act like Gnome2??

IMPORTANT: Cairo Dock is an absolute must have for me, and so are desktop panels.

Can anyone guide me (preferably step-by-step) on how to install Cairo Dock and something similar to the Gnome 2 Panel??
Also, can you install Screenlets in #!, like the ones in my snapshot?
Please help me, and thank you for your precious time.
See my Gnome 2 desktop snapshot for more details:

Linux ROCKS, Winodw$ SUCKS.
And Mac is just an overpriced dumbed down version of "Linux for Dummies"

I'm sure you can do all that in openbox - but why not just install a DE that includes all that stuff?
I used to run some cairo screenlets, but they broke after a dist-upgrade because of cairo dependencies, and I didn't care enough to try and fix it

damo,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I assume that by "DE" you mean Debian, right?
As far as the rest of your answer, can you please be a little more specific than
"I'm sure you can do all that in openbox"
That was also my guess, since they tell you on the #! site that Openbox is highly customizable, but I need to know how, at least some detailed hints if not a step-by-step guide.
Thanks again for your time.

By DE I meant a "desktop environment" ie a gnome desktop in this case. It may be easier to get all your bling that way, including gnome screenlets
Otherwise install the panel that you want, cairo dock etc. Search in synaptic for all the elements you need - I'm sure you don't need a step-by-step for that

I'd go with;
a. panel = add debian autoupdating menu to openbox right-click menu (thats the panel part, ok, its not a panel, but ...)
a2. some tint2 mods perhaps
b. screenlets = do a conky-grand-master quick-curse-course
c. dock = plank (you will have to compile it yourself)
edit: There should be plenty of education on all this buried exactly in this forums.
