Package Managemengt

I am interested in knowing what is the preferred method of managing packages on CrunchBang. I know that a person shouldn't mix Aptitude and Apt-get, so want to figure this out before I install many packages. CrunchBang used apt-get to install with the cb-welcome script so is it better to stick with this? What is the main differences between Aptitud and Apt-get?

Thanks

Personally: apt-get Opinion!

Some reading:

  1. Aptitude vs Apt-Get

  2. What is the real difference between “apt-get” and “aptitude”?

  3. Aptitude vs. apt-get: Which is the recommended (aka the “right”) tool to use?

Re: Package Managemengt

I think you can mix it. I use only apt. The only question is which has the better easter egg.

Re: Package Managemengt

Problems with mixing aptitude and apt-get are (or at least should be, one never knows) gone for years now. Nowadays it's an urban legend that keeps coming back over and over again.

I prefer aptitude over apt-get most of the time, except when I am installing software, 'apt-get install $package' has found it's way into my neurotransmitters too well. It's more comfortable, handles dependencies better and searching works way better.
