I should probably install #! first...

Hello. I heard about Crunchbang this morning from an acquaintance on Google+, who passed along a link to this OStastic article. However, I'm typing from my day job. Since I've got my laptop jacked into the company's guest wifi network, I don't quite dare download the installation ISO yet.

BitTorrent can wait until I'm home, especially since I should stop on the way and get a flash drive (in case I can't find one in my junk drawer). However, once I have install media prepped, I'll be switching my laptop from Linux Mint 15 to Waldorf.

Really nice intro.  Welcome to #! ... coffee, cookies and 247 shades of light-to-almost-black-grey paint at that table over there.

Enjoy your stay.

Thanks. I could use some coffee; I've been pulling some serious overtime the last few weeks.

There we go. I've got Crunchbang installed. I've got wifi on my System76 Pangolin laptop, and I'm working through the post-install script. smile

Getting home and having dinner helped. I downloaded and burned the ISO while cooking, and tapped through the installation in between bites of chorizo with spelt ribbons and spinach on the side. Nice, easy installation. smile

chorizo - y chorizo colorado ¡mejor! but spinach - yuk! ... unless it's in a salad with olive oil, garlic and grated Parmesan!

Matter of fact I re-installed #! on the back40 last night as well. I what to test some stuff to see if it breaks.  big_smile

Pretty good so far, but I'm having some trouble getting the RedCloth-4.2.9 gem to compile with wheezy's ruby 1.9.1. I kinda need RedCloth to use with Jekyll since I only use Markdown for simple stuff. Anything complex gets formatted with Textile. I think the problem might be that I was using ruby 1.9.3 on Linux Mint 15, in which case I have to get that version from jessie or sid. Either that, or I find an alternative module for Jekyll.

First, I have to fix this trackpad so it doesn't stick the cursor where it doesn't belong while I'm typing. Should have done that last night, to be honest. smile

Fixed that little RedCloth compilation problem. Forgot to install this stuff first.

^ ^ - See, now there's the noob in me, I saw that in my email and couldn't makes heads nor tails of what you were talking about.

I was going to offer you some PlaidCloth to use with Diamond and let the hard stuff be handled by Hyde.  As far as Markdown is concerned in this world everything is Markedup these days. devil However a quick search set me straight. cool

And I'm still a noob, on a desktop, so trackpad is out of my line of sight as well.   ops

It's OK, Sector11. I sorted out the trackpad as well. I'm new to #!, but not to *nix. devil

Maybe I should put together a HOWTO for installing Jekyll on #! for people who want to generate small sites with blogs, but don't want to deal with WordPress, Blogger, et al...

And Markdown is pretty damn sweet if you're a writer. Once you know the syntax, you can write all sorts of text in the editor of your choice, and then use pandoc to export to other formats. I'll tell you, it beats trying to use LibreOffice to write a novel, but LibreOffice is handy for revisions and editing when your publisher isn't staffed by geeks. smile

Re: I should probably install #! first...

I was having fun with ya.  (I read your site).  wink   But I really did have to search for those things. I don't use OO, I have it because my wife gets some PPS files from friend on occasion.  Other then that everything I have is pure text files.

That Jekyll HowTo idea is a good one and would probably grab the interest of a people for sure.

Thanks, Barnabyh. It's a slow day at the day job; I've just been monkeying around with my tint2 and conky configs. Finally got things close to how I want 'em.

Welcome aboard.  I just switched from LMDE. As a relatively new Linux user, I have to agree with you. #! should have been my first Linux distro also.  It is just alarming to the new user because of the unfamiliarity of Openbox.  It is not difficult once you discover the "right click".  #!'s elegant simplicity not only makes it perfect for the newbie, it also keeps it interesting for them.  big_smile
