Introduction

Hello. I'm new to this list (or any such). I'm a mathematician with an
interest in programming languages and proof assistants, but I know
nothing about hardware or networking. I'm very old (my first computer
came from Radio Shack and had 3K, then came a Commodore 64 on which I
could do some amazing things using Forth (which I still love)). Many
years ago I used DOS for a week; more recently I was forced to use
Windows for two weeks. That was enough of that! My Linux adventures
began years ago, with Red Hat Linux (before it was commercial), and
continued with Suse (before it split), Debian, all the *buntus, with
brief experiments with Aptosid, Salix, Simply Mepis, Kanotix,...). I
discovered Crunchbang about a month ago and have been very happy with
it (I also tried Manjaro but I could not do disk partitioning
correctly--now I'm glad).

Hiya TromboneDog

Welcome - I know where youre coming from.  I still got my Sinclair ZX81 and VIC-20 -- and they still work too..

I used to do AUTOCAD electronic PCB and Schematic design (7 layers all on a monochroome green screen) on a IBM XT 2.66 MHz with 640kb RAM, 10MB HD.  Yep these youngsters have no idea what we had to work with hahaha....

Ahhh those were the days.....  he says slight rocking back for forth in his chair......

Not really at all - Im SERIOUSLY lovin my brand spankin new 8Core 4GHz AMD with 120GB SSD solely for linux OS, 32GB 1600 RAM and 3TD HD.  A genuine screamer... I couldnt go back if I tried...

I started with RH6.2 - dropped Windows in a heart beat and never looked back..

My KARMA just ran over your DOGMA.....

Re: Introduction

Welcome TromboneDog, nice story you got there.

"...forced to use Windows for two weeks." Chuckle lol . Unfortunately most of us are having to cope with it for far longer at work. Everywhere managers think users are idiots and couldn't get the job done if presented with a GUI similar to the proprietary players, it has to be exactly that GUI. It's a long, slow struggle.
