spectrwm (used to be scrotwm) is a good place to start with tilers -- it's in the repo, it has a fairly sane default configuration and good documentation, and its configuration can be easily changed by modifying its run-time config file.

gutterslob wrote:

^ Scrot/Spectr/BallsackWM was where I ended up at after trying out of more feature-rich tilers, ironically.

I reckon i3 would a better tiler to start with.
It's also configured in human-readable syntax and also comes with a few more features - systray and tabbed mode being the main lure for most people.

yep already read them all, and i've been changing wm in the last 3 days: from Awesome, to spectrwm, to dwm, (good thing Xephyr come in handy..) and finally settled with i3, thanks to sir DebianJoe who's suggesting me using i3 in the first place smile

for a newb like me, indeed i3 easy to configure...

here's mine, using i3+conky:

sure thing bronto, steal away.  The scrot is from bloat, but I believe I used the same .Xresource configuration for Kielbasa as well.   You can thank XENULL for those.  I made some slight alterations, but the core of it is his.

Very quick question...  how does one get the output of you top right terminal...  that brief "system info" with the #! ASCII art to the left of it.

Cheers.

I am LOVING Crunchbang.  Awesome is pretty cool, but I keep coming back to Openbox.

I don't really see the point of me having a desktop.

moderator edit:  added thumbnail
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please use thumbnails (please try to avoid the large thumbnail imgur.com code) linking to the larger image to help those of us with slow connections. An example of the code needed is below. Most image hosting sites will automatically generate this for you as well. Users have been using postimage.org lately which does a nice job.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry about posting that large image, filesmelt doesn't support thumbnails, I guess I'll use imgur in the future. Thanks for fixing it for me and pointing me in the right direction.  big_smile

#intoCB:  So long as his sig doesn't suggest anything lewd or illegal, and so long as he doesn't actually cause trouble, he's welcome here.  Incidentally, he's been here a few months now (most likely lurking, which is fine); his only other post has been in a thread about a keyboard with a #! key saying "I'd love one of these"...which I find rather warm & fuzzy. monkey
