Second Gpu not detected

Hi there folks.

I needed a linux distro on my desktop, and after almost 2 years of running #! on my netbook, that had to be the best choice.
The point is that the desktop has SLI. Two quite old GPU's (Nvidia GTX 260)  that overheat on idle (they are too old). On windows i have an application that controls the fan speeds so i keep the temps low. I can't express how MAJOR it is that i can control the fan speeds while running on linux. I saw somewhere that i can manage to do it with nvidia settings, but:

The problem is that nvidia settings can't detect the second gpu.....
It detects the first one that that's all.....

lspci| grep VGA prints both gpus...

i added the device manually in xorg.conf and after a reboot ia managed to see it in nvidia-settings. After a second reboot, without changing ANYTHING, it simply dissapeared and never came back....

I tried to install every nvidia driver possible, and i ended up FUCKING the system up, because of the MOST STUPID DRIVER INSTALLER THAT EXISTS ON THE PLANET... And that is Nvidia's driver installer for linux....

nvidia-installer-autoclean is stuck now... i can't do absolutely anything.... And propably i'll immediately reinstall the distro.

So please, if anyone has to propose anything for the second gpu detenction, please help ^^.

Re: Second Gpu not detected

Have you tried sgfxi in the smxi scripts? That sorted all my nvidia installation problems - sweet and easy to use

Re: Second Gpu not detected

found it tried it but still the job s not done....

I seriously can't understand what is happening with xorg....

I install the drivers, then i run nvidia-xconfig (sgfxi makes the same thing) and i have a very basic configuration. That configuration creates only ONE device section, so what i should do is to create a SECOND one, with a different name and the correct BusID. When i reboot, i DO see the 2nd gpu on the settings.

Now if i go and add whatever i need in xorg.conf, i simply lose everything.... and not only that. Even if i restore the working configuration, i still don't see the second gpu......

I tried installing another distro, but the same thing happens there too....

Hands Up. I am trying to fix this stupidness the past 10 hours....

Re: Second Gpu not detected

i just installed the drivers, after uninstalling the previous ones, and now not even nvidia module cannot be modprobed....

EDIT: After a 3rd reboot the module loaded. I saw both cards on nvidia-settings. i INSTANTLY rebooted. And the card is gone again........................

Dmesg prints again the initial output....

Re: Second Gpu not detected

EDIT: Nevermind. It's a similar issue, but not quite the same. lspci detects second GPU but it isn't initialized. However dmesg doesn't say anything about "NVRM: installed in this system is not supported by the 319.17", which seems like the driver not supporting your card. Anyway, I kept the rest of my post in case you want to give it a try.

Having the same issue. Looked around and found this on Arch Wiki. Apparently, either setting your vmalloc higher in grub2, disabling IOMMU in your bios or changing your bios IRQ routing can fix this.

Unfortunately neither vmalloc solution nor IOMMU solution (don't have that setting in my bios) worked for me. Going to try bios IRQ whenever I have time. Will post the results here.
