Hello all,
As said in the subject, AssaultCube isn't launching anymore since my yesterday's update/dist-upgrade.
I tried purging assaultcube and assaultcube-data and reinstalling, but still doesn't work.
I tried installing AssaultCube_v1.1.0.4.tar.bz2 downloaded from http://assault.cubers.net/, still no success.
In both cases, I have this message if I start it from the terminal:
Using home directory: /home/philippe/.assaultcube_v1.1

init: sdl
init: net
init: world

From the output, it looks related to your nvidia driver (the NV-GLX). Did xorg update drivers or did you apply the recent kernel update? If you're using proprietary drivers you might have to recompile the kernel modules.
Let us know if that helped.

Thanks for the quick response!
Yes, there has been an update with xorg video drivers.
I feel like a complete newbie, but how do you recompile a kernel? Is there an "easy" way?

Welcome!
You don't need to recompile the kernel. I was talking about the proprietary nvidia driver, which compiles its own kernel modules AFAIK, but I'm using ATI/AMD on all my machines so can't really say for sure how that works for nvidia.
The fact that you didn't know suggests to me you're using the free drivers that are coming with Debian/CrunchBang. In that case no need to recompile anything, but obviously the update in xorg did not work in your favour. Maybe you could downgrade, i.e. go back to your previous driver if you still have the old version in your cache? If that's not an option try this thread on the forums http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=19332 to install the non-free drivers.

I followed your link and remembered, reading the thread, using smxi to install the video drivers a while ago.
So I used it again and skipped directly to the graphics part.
It Worked!!!
So if you ever play AssaultCube, lookout for General_MIDI...
Thanks again Barnabyh!

Nice! Could you add [Solved] to the title of the first post so others looking for a solution to this problem can find it more easily?
一期一会 Let it be good.

Great stuff, pleased I could help! Have fun then, General_MIDI.
And yes, from time to time I play Assaultcube for a bit, every couple of years that is. I play under the same pseudonym.
Cheers~
